  1. Add Get Parameter button to Power Query and avoid Privacy / Formula.Firewall problems

    It's fantastic that you can pick up named ranges in Excel and pass them to Power Query as parameters. However the process is cumbersome and often results in Formula.Firewall warnings or other issues.

    This leads to having to switch Privacy Levels to "Ignore" or having to write a query within a query rather than nice and clean "parameter" queries.

    It would really simplify things if we could quickly create parameter queries (including a drop down to select parameter type) and that these queries would be immune from the Privacy warnings.

  2. Filtering Needs to Work in Co-Authoring

    Say that several people are editing the same workbook. If Tom filters to show only his records, then the other people will only see Tom's records. We need to be able to have each person apply a different filter and see only their records.
    Note that it is fine to require that the workbook can not have SUBTOTAL or AGGREGATE functions in order for independent filtering to work. If you allow these functions, then everyone will have different calculation results which would be problematic.

  3. "Power BI Service" as a data source in "Get & Transform"

    It would be awesome if "Power BI Service" is added as a data source under "Get Data" in "Get & Transform Data" in Excel. Though the source availability is already there with "Power BI Publisher Add-in" but it is buggy and hard to deploy on large number of laptops/desktops. Also, it is practically very difficult to educate down the line users about re-enabling this add-in via COM Add-ins in case it disappears from the ribbon which is very frequent in case of this add-in. We have been struggling with this for a long period of time now.

    Hi Deepak,

    Thanks for logging this issue. I agree this would be quite useful, especially as Power BI is emerging as a hub for business data.

    This request is slightly different than what PBI Desktop does. PBI Desktop essentially provides a Live Connect essentially deferring the model to the service and limiting the experience to visualizations so it’s not importing data into the report. So there’re two possible outcomes you could be looking for:
    1. Allow users to import data into Excel as query tables, just like one can from an external store like SQL Server or Oracle. This provides fine grained data retrieval.
    2. Create a new PivotTable that summarizes data on PBI service.

    The PBI Publisher addin performs #2. Is that what you’re looking for? Or would you rather have #1 if you had to choose?

  4. Return share workbook functionality to Excel 2016

    Excel 2016 has recently removed the share workbook functionality and hidden the icon for easily sharing workbooks. It appears that this has not taken into account spreadsheets that are saved on file servers, and aren't uploaded into the cloud (ie the co-authoring functionality). Please return the functionality so that workbooks can be easily shared.

  5. Make slicers visible "On Demand".

    Allow the user to configure if the slicer is always in view or pops up on-demand. Activation/visibility could be triggered by selecting a visible report filter field or pivot table column header. Alternately, a report filter field could be configured to pop-up a slicer instead of, or in addition to the normal selection box. Another alternate would be to have report filter field style boxes independent of the pivot table range which would pop-up the slicer when selected. Lastly, a slicer selection panel could be added with a list of parameters to choose which would cause the slicer to pop-up

  6. Make quick measures like in Power BI available in Excel as well

    This makes it so much easier for newbies or occasional users to adopt the new technologies, so please add in Excel as well.

  7. Add Fiscal Month and Fiscal Year to the Query Editor "Add Column " Date Button

    The Query Editor allows you to easily create Year, Month, Month Name etc, but many people need Fiscal Month Number and Fiscal year

  8. Allow interaction with Excel while in Power Query

    Please make the Power Query editor window (Get Data) non-model. When building complex queries, we often need to go back to Excel to change a worksheet and look at data. Right now, the Power Query editor window takes control over the application, preventing interaction with Excel.

    The current behaviour makes it very difficult to do things like the following:
    -Mid query, go back and check a worksheet to see exactly what a cell value may be that you want to refer to

  9. Be able to protect Power Query with password

    Now any user can edit and change Power Query connections, it would be very interesting to be able to protect Power Queries with a password.

  10. Get Tables working on protected sheets (add rows, sort, filter, etc.)

    I would like to be able to, under the right circumstances, have the ability to add/remove rows of a table which resides on a protected sheet.

    Currently if you protect a sheet you can't insert/delete rows of a table. Even if you unprotect all cells and allow inserting/deleting of rows on sheet protection, it doesn't matter and is completely ignored.

    What I am proposing would have to follow specific rules:

    * Table cells would have to be unprotected
    * Cells below table would have to be unprotected (truly optional † )
    * Insert Rows would have to be specified in…

  11. Add "Run R Script" option to Excel 2016 and Excel 2013 "Power Query" add-in, as it is for Power BI.

    In July 2016, a "Run R Script" option was added to Power BI Desktop. This option would be a huge benefit to have in Excel 2016 and Excel 2013 Power Query add-in also.

    Hi folks,

    Thanks for your passion around this. We’ve been discussing this item off and on for some time now and we’d love to get your input.

    The reason we’ve resisted this is because the R runtime & various packages (and updating their versions) aren’t straightforward for other users to install. This limits sharing such queries across a workgroup.

  13. Ability to select data on 3D Map by dragging over an area

    Once data is charted on map drag the mouse over an area to select just the results in that area. Would be useful for CRM marketing campaigns etc.

    This capability is not currently supported on any of our new chart types in O16. However, we are working on plans to support this functionality in the future.

  16. Apply the right format to chart labels on French Excel with thousand formatter

    On cells with a format such as
    ActiveCell.NumberFormat -> #,##0.00,k
    ActiveCell.NumberFormatLocal -> # ##0,00 k

    ... the corresponding label value in a chart is mis-diplayed on Excel French version.
    It is displayed as "123 456,00 k" instead of "123,46k"

    Same problem with million format (2 commas or 2 spaces in localized version)

    Could this be corrected; it is very frustrating. Thank you

  17. Intelligent number formatting in chart axes

    Add functionality to automatically adjust x and y axis number formatting to be appropriate to the min and max scaling. This would be particularly useful when the same chart template for dynamic charting and/or running scenarios.

    For example in the following min/max ranges Excel could apply the following number formats:

    0 to 10's - 0.0 (e.g. 5.0)
    0 to 000's - #,##0 (e.g. 5,000)
    0 to 000'000's - display units millions (e.g. 5.0 and add million label next to chart)

  18. Tighter integration with MS Access

    Tighter integration with MS Access - improve (expand) object model to provide more powerful and transparent integration between Access, Excel and Word. Make it easier to create visual models using flexibility of Excel column / Row structure using MS Access datasets and VBA code.

  19. Support for Rose charts

    Please could we have support for Rose charts. These are a form of Pie chart where the radius of the segment is used to represent an extra value. These are particular common in metrological, demographic, political and healthcare reporting.

    For example a hospital may want to report on the number of admissions due to alcohol related violence by day of week. In a standard pie chart each wedge could be a day of the week and the angle of the wedge represents the number for that day of the week as a proportion of the total weekly admissions due to…

  20. probability plots

    Implement probability plots similar to those in minitab. In a probability plot, a series of measurements appears as a curve with the quantity being measured on the x axis, and percentiles on the y axis. The curve becomes a straight line if the data is normally distributed. Some probability plots can also be constructed for other distributions.
