  2. Use ISO8601 when exporting dates to CSV files

    When exporting to a CSV file, it would be best to export dates in ISO8601 format (or a specific date format if the user has set one). CSV is about making things machine readable and this avoids the ambiguity of American vs British date formats. I regularly deal with local councils and they will export a CSV file from Excel and then be very confused as to why the date format has changed when they've explicitly set it. If you can't preserve their chosen format, please default to ISO8601 to reduce headaches.

  3. Clicking on a macro originating from another file ...

    the originating file opens and asks for confirmation about the links. After that, it stays there, and you still have to choose the file you were working on.

  4. Upgrades that don't wipe Excel's memory of recently opened files

    It is exceptionally irritating (and costs your users valuable time) when the following happens immediately after a Microsoft upgrade. Firstly a screen appears inviting you to take a tour of all the new features you don't want. Then you select "open file" to find that the list of recently used files has been deleted by the upgrade. This then takes time to search for those files, again causing irritation and loss of productivity to your users. It strikes me that there is a shortage of competence here, both in the programmer who compiled the last two upgrades, and of the…

  5. create file shortcut on desktop

    Please restore the ability to "create shortcut on desktop" directly from the file manager. It was so handy. Now i have to create a shortcut, then copy or move it to the desktop.

  6. Hello. Allow users to open more than one file in the same workbook for Excel 2016 for Windows 10. Not a separate workbook per file.

    Hello. Allow users to open more than one file in the same workbook in Excel 2016 for Windows 10. Not a separate workbook per file.
    Not helpful for toggling.
    Why was this discontinued in Excel 2013 ?

  7. Remove or make optional your "Copy of" when saving my excel worksheet.

    Make the Copy of function an option not a no choice in the renaming of my file every time I save my file. Also, when opening excel for the first time, make it an option to open on a blank workbook. Excel 2019 is a disaster with these not made as options and a waste of my time having to work around them.

  8. Excel - Improve Excel file corruption detection

    We have a corruption on a specific Excel file. This corruption very significantly reduced Excel performances. Unfortunately, Excel did not automatically detect the corruption while opening the file. We have to manually remove "custom views" for the Excel file, and re-open it to allow Excel detecting the corruption and repairing it. It is a pity that Excel cannot detect the corruption by himself, if we did not perform the trick of removing custom views. I am reproducing the issue with last version of Excel.
    My request is to improve the corruption detection, so this kind of corruption can be detected.…

  9. Way to disable greetings

    Excel started to "greet" me recently and home page is showing template list.
    I have disabled showing of templates from startup so this is supper annoying.
    How do I stop both things? Excel does not know me so don't tell me "Good morning" or such.
    This just craps on my screen and covers with junk forcing me to use extra clicks to get to things. I want to see the real list of pinned items/ last accessed ones - and in this order.
    95% of the time I use only pinned items and last access time is not relevant to…

  11. Please, PLEASE, stop Excel from opening minimized documents when I open a new document!

    I work in multiple excel documents at any given time throughout my day. It is not unusual to have 6 or more open. When I open a new document it takes forever because Excel seems to think I want all minimized documents expanded as well as opening a new document. I am sometimes under a deadline and the pause/interruption of work-flow by having to wait for the new doc to open and then re-minimize everything that I do not want open is ridiculous.

  12. Have Excel AutoRecover in the background (if given the opportunity), rather than waiting to disrupt your flow upon regaining focus

    Excel seems to trigger an autorecover as soon as it regains focus. This seems quite stupid and disruptive given the amount of time in the background it could do this housekeeping - why wait until the user reactivates the window to immediately freeze up and do an autorecover? Thanks!

  13. Add "reload file from disk" shortcut

    Why is there no "reload file from disk" button / shortcut?

    Seriously, it's 2019 - it seems like a dead-stupid thing to have; I just want Excel to re-read the same file name's data from disk.

    I frequently use Python to generate XLSX files, and as I'm making tweaks to my tool, I am constantly doing:

    - Cmd+W
    - Cmd+O
    - Double click file, wait for it to open
    - Select all cells
    - Double click column width adjuster to force columns to be the width of the data
    - Re-implementing any sort / filter logic I had in the…

  15. save all files

    There should be an option to save ALL open files at once. This way if you're working across multiple files you don't have to go through and save each individually.

  16. Show the actual character count when filepath length exceeds the 218 character count

    We have to deal with the limitation that the full filename (including path) cannot exceed 218 characters. When it happens, we get an error message describing the issue (sort of); could you include the "current" character count so we can remove only the necessary characters instead of guessing?

  17. Show More Error Details for Auto-Restored Excel Files

    When Excel automatically restores a "crashed" file, and you attempt to save that file, a warning about errors is displayed. You can view the log file directly from the warning, but the log file contains the same amount of error statement wording. It would be helpful to receive more details.

    In my case, the warning was:
    "One or more invalid conditional formats were removed from the workbook"

    It would be beneficial to know what cells had their invalid formats removed and what the invalid format rules were.

  18. Multiple Backups

    More and more I'm opening my files with my macros and getting "missing library" or even worse, not being able to recover the coding.

    I finally did a macro to replace the "backup of" system excel uses:

    It keeps a big number of backup versions using this format (I use a variable inside the macro. Right now is 12). I will end with 12 backups, and they will be recycle, one by one:
    AUTORECOVER-1-file name.XLSB
    AUTORECOVER-2-file name.XLSB
    AUTORECOVER-3-file name.XLSB
    .
    .
    .
    AUTORECOVER-12-file name.XLSB

    Macro

    Sub BACKUP_SYSTEM()
    ' ---------------------------------------------
    XNUM_OF_BACKUPS = 12

    XFOLDER = UCase(ActiveWorkbook.Path)
    XWORKBOOK = UCase(ActiveWorkbook.Name)

    If InStr(XWORKBOOK,…

  19. allow spreadsheets to be saved as an application (like an app)

    I want an application and a database for a buissness. I want the spreadsheet to be identical to the database and I want multiple users to use it at the same time so when one person changes something it updates quietly in the background

  20. Save as PDF - PDF version standard

    Save as PDF should use the same PDF version standard across all Microsoft products for example version 1.7 regardless if using Mac or Windows and regardless of using Microsoft online service to generate the PDF or using the local service.
