  1. Intelligent number formatting in chart axes

    Add functionality to automatically adjust x and y axis number formatting to be appropriate to the min and max scaling. This would be particularly useful when the same chart template for dynamic charting and/or running scenarios.

    For example in the following min/max ranges Excel could apply the following number formats:

    0 to 10's - 0.0 (e.g. 5.0)
    0 to 000's - #,##0 (e.g. 5,000)
    0 to 000'000's - display units millions (e.g. 5.0 and add million label next to chart)

  2. Float/Hover Charts that are Objects on a Sheet so they stay in vew as you scroll

    Introduce a setting that lets you float/hover a chart that's an object in a sheet so that when you scroll the sheet, the chart stays in that place and viewable on the screen as you scroll.

    Think of 'position: fixed' in CSS:

    #Chart {
    position: fixed;
    right: 10;
    top: 10;

    You could also step it up a notch and have the button appear on mouse hover somewhere on the chart that has the option to float: on/off.

    Yes I know you can split or freeze the screen but it wastes a lot of screen real estate.

    That’s an interesting idea. We’ll definitely consider this in our planning for the next release. Please continue to vote on this feature idea.

    Thanks,

  3. VLookup and Inserting Columns: VLookup should increment the col_index_num when you insert a new column in the range.

    When you insert a column and it affects the range referred to by a vlookup, the table range updates but the column index number does not. The column index number should increase with the table range so that the same column is pulled. I can't think of a scenario where inserting columns in a table but not updating the column index is a user's intended course of action.

    Thanks for the suggestion Alexander. We’ll be taking a look at how various lookup scenarios work and looking at improvements there. We’ll be sure to deeply consider anything that’s got a lot of votes, so please keep voting for the things you find most important.

    Thanks,
    John [MS XL]

  4. Add vertical waterfall chart in Excel 2016

    Add vertical waterfall chart in Excel 2016 (labels in Y axis) in addition to the existing horizontal type (labels in X axis)

    Add optional lines between bar gap

    This is an interesting idea. Could you provide an example of the layout that is of interest? Is it simply a 90 deg. rotation of what we have in XL 2016?

    Thank you for the further details in your comments. We are using this forum to gauge the relative importance of feature requests. The number of potential feature improvements is very broad so we need to focus our resources on the most important ones.

    Please continue to vote on this feature idea which will increase its likelihood of getting implemented.

    Thanks,
    Scott [MSFT]

  5. Integrate error handling/value on error for functions such as VLOOKUP

    While functions like IFERROR and ISERROR exist, it complicates things to have to wrap each function in an error checker.

    E.g.
    =IFERROR(VLOOKUP(C2,A1:B6,2,FALSE),"not found")
    could become:
    =VLOOKUP(C2,A1:B6,2,FALSE,"not found")

  7. Extend VLOOKUP() and HLOOKUP()

    Extend the lookup functions so they can lookup left/up as well as right/down. That will save us having to build and maintain unintuitive formulae combining INDEX() and MATCH().

    Thanks for taking the time to post a suggestion Malcolm! We’ll be taking a look at lookup functions. There’s a number of votes on the site for them – I’m not going to merge all of them though because different posts are asking for slightly different things. Please keep voting for the ones you want to see most!

    Cheers,
    John [MS XL]

  8. Trace dependents to graphs and names

    When I clean up others' workbooks, I use Trace Dependents to make sure that I can safely delete a value without messing up any part of the file. However, Trace Dependents does not go to graphs or names, so I have to manually check those.

    I feel that Trace Dependents should trace anything that depends on the cell being traced, not just cells.

  9. Fix X axis formatting for graphing histograms

    I want to graph data from Histogram function to produce column graphs. Histograms have boundaries for each category. When graphing you can't get the column between the boundary lines on the graph and get the axis labels to line up with the tick marks. If you position axis on tick marks you get the lower boundary label of the category centered on the tick mark which is centered under the column. If you position between tick marks you get the lower boundary label centered under the column and not on the lower boundary. I need to get the column between…

  10. Coloring chart items by referencing to fix RGB-colors

    If you create several charts in a workbook file or creating several charts in different workbooks you have to control, that a special item has the same color in any of these charts.
    In an enterprise environment this is a special need for reporting. You have to do it manually and you have to control any chart after updating because of filtering, resorting or adding new items.

    I imagine, that there could be an option button, that connects a chart to a reference file. This file can be stored locally or in an enterprise environment. The named items of a…

  11. Add a zoom feature to charts

    In any line chart sometimes the lines are so close that we can not see the differences. Especially when we add one (or more) trend lines.

    At this point we need to zoom into the chart.

  12. Confidence Interval for Error bars

    Add Confidence Interval as an option for error bars in charts and pivot charts.
    There is already a confidence interval function. This is a feature of competing software like JMP or Minitab.

  13. Scatter Charts with Group-By from third data series

    This is a basic charting function that falls in the gap between regular Scatter charts and also Pivot Charts. You should be able to plot Y against X while grouping by a third column of categories. This might be helpful in other chart types too, though is particularly vital for scatter charts.

    The question was asked here on SuperUser:
    http://superuser.com/questions/750353/excel-scatter-plot-with-multiple-series-from-1-table

    I believe it would work better for this functionality to be brought into Pivot Charts in preference to regular charts - regular charts break too easily when data changes, while Pivot charts are quick to set up and have most…

  14. Easy method for exporting charts to other formats

    Currently it is not possible to easily export excel charts to other formats (e.g. png, eps, pdf, etc.) even in the excel 2016. The ability to do so easily (via the context menu for example) without the need to use any external software would be so handy.

    Today, this can be done via a VBA macro. However, we can definitely see the value in doing this through the UI. We’ll consider this in our future planning.

    We’ll be posting to the Excel UserVoice home page, the features which we’ll be implementing in the near future. To be clear though, we are focusing on features which have the highest customer interest which typically have hundreds of votes.

    Thanks,

  15. Do not chart null values

    Chart defaults to plotting null or ' values as zero. The default should be to not plot null values

  16. Give user option to NOT take selected/all Defined Names to new workbook when copying worksheet

    If you copy a worksheet from one workbook to another, Excel currently also automatically copies ALL Defined Names (even if there is no range in the source workbook to which these refer!). It will also copy without warning names with a different scope to an existing name in the target workbook (i.e. If an existing name has Workbook scope, a copied Sheet scoped name will be copied without an warning of the duplication!). This can result in a huge number of redundant or conflicting Names in the target workbook.

  18. Box and whisker charts - log scale on y axis

    I often do stats on highly skewed data sets and use a log scale for the y axis. This does not seem to be an option.

  19. Paste Excel charts into Word as EMF by default (not big blurry PNG!)

    Charts pasted to Word as Enhanced MetaFile look better and are much, much smaller that the PNG files generated by default. This has consequences for PDF exporting. A Word report with more than a couple of charts ends up as a multi-megabyte PDF file, when using EMFs yields files in the low hundreds of kB. Please add an option in either program to use EMF as the default format.

  20. Enable better control of treemaps

    Done right, Treemaps are a generalization of Marimekko plots. But, we need to be able to control the maps. E.g., control whether a level-one group stretches thinly from the bottom to the top versus being more square and stacked under another level-one group. Also, labeling has to be better--you should at least meet (if you can't exceed) the features in Jon Peltier's add-in.
