  1. Rotate sunburst chart (& other controls)

LOVE THE NEW SUNBURST. Great work, guys - please keep it up. Would like ability to rotate the sunburst chart (just like we can with the regular pie chart) and have much more control over the final product, such as: ability to turn visibility on or off for any segment (sometimes really important segments are not labelled because they are relatively small - please give us control), more control over colors of segments and sub-segments, better font size & text rotation of labels, more data label options such as pop-out / data callout and other options found on pie chart.

  2. Tighter integration with MS Access

Tighter integration with MS Access - improve (expand) object model to provide more powerful and transparent integration between Access, Excel and Word. Make it easier to create visual models using flexibility of Excel column / Row structure using MS Access datasets and VBA code.

  3. Remember the chart type, chart formatting (and template) on Pivot Charts

When you're charting a pivot table and have a combo chart - say stacked bar chart with a line chart - and you filter your pivot table so that one of the stacked bar elements disappears, the chart replaces the missing element from the line chart. Remove the filter and your line chart is still part of the stacked bar chart.

I'd like the pivot chart elements to remain in their place even when there's nothing to show because of the filter.

Additionally, any formatting applied via Chart Templates to Pivot Charts is lost on Pivoting, etc. - this formatting…

  4. Auto resizing of formula bar

Give us an easily accessible option to have the formula bar resize automatically if a formula spans across multiple rows in the formula bar so the whole formula will be visible.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I’ve seen some related requests, I’ll look at merging them to make sure the votes properly reflect the ask. We’ll prioritize this into the execution pipe appropriately based on the number of votes.

    Cheers,
    John [MS XL]

  5. Creation of PPT slides directly from excel Sheet

    Hi All,

I would like to see a new feature in excel, where from just one click we can export the excel sheet , charts ,objects in powerpoint slides.

  7. What-if Data Table calc should use multi-threading

Calculation Performance of iterative what-if Data Tables is unnecessarily slow. The reasons seem to be (in priority sequence):
    - each iteration is using single-threaded recalculation rather than multi-threaded
    - the overhead for the whole table calculation looks larger than it should be
    - the process starts with a recalc, then does each iteration, then ends with a recalc: the first recalc is unnecessary
    - if the values to be used in one of the iterations are the same as the start values the recalc for that set of values could be skipped

Many thanks to Charles for taking the time to analyze this in such detail and start the discussion about improving the efficiency of data tables. Please vote for this issue if it’s important to you so we can prioritize it appropriately.

  8. Protect me from #REF! ambushes

Every so often I delete cells and unbeknownst to me create a bunch of #REF! errors in another part of my worksheet. I may not realize until much later when I can no longer undo back to fix the error. Excel could spare me this. If my deletion is about to create #REF!s it should bring up an alert like "Other cells depend on the cells you are about to delete. Would you like Excel to adjust their formulas to avoid #REF! errors? [Yes][No][Cancel]. [No] would do what it does today. [Cancel] would abort the operation. [Yes] would smartly substitute…

  9. Improve the Conditional Formatting Manager

So that we can easily manage conditional formatting. While we're at it, the way conditional formatting is treated when cutting / copying and pasting etc could be reconsidered.

[Following examples added by Dan [MS] for clarity on 10/20/2015]
    * name rules
    * add a comment to rules
    * more easily see what rules apply to what range
    * see which rules can be consolidated b/c they are similar
    * etc.

Thanks for the suggestion Levi! We’ll be taking a look at this along with some other asks around conditional formatting. It’s a big help to see the things with the most votes, particularly within areas like formatting. So please keep the votes coming for things you want us to do sooner!

    Thanks,

  10. Make it easier to find external links

Not just break them - help us to find where they are. It's time consuming to look in charts, data validation, conditional formatting, data and shapes.

  11. save chart as image

It would be nice to be able to right-click on a chart and have an option to save it as an image (jpg, png, ...) to the hard drive instead of copy pasting to another application or using screen capture software.

  12. Conditional format coloring for Treemap chart

I noticed that the new charts for 2016 have a treemap chart that looks great but is missing other options to have changes in color as oppose to one solid color for different category. Looking to have something that would change color due to changes in value (ie. from negative (red) to positive (green) with an optional midpoint color (black))

  13. Preserve source quoting and separator when saving CSV.

Currently, Excel alters CSV files to it's internal CSV format whenever the file is saved, even if no changes were made to the file. For example, if I open a CSV file like below (anonymized version of a AWS credentials file):

User Name,Access Key Id,Secret Access Key
    "somebody",WISKFHEYDSJ2UDFH6XAD,mDHJNSLCF!safsdlds>Flsdfj/Mjufsldkhafdsl

And then I merely open the file and save it without making any changes, Excel will alter file, removing the quotes:

User Name,Access Key Id,Secret Access Key
    somebody,WISKFHEYDSJ2UDFH6XAD,mDHJNSLCF!safsdlds>Flsdfj/Mjufsldkhafdsl

In this particular example, the change is harmless but for more complex CSV files, simply opening them in Excel is sufficient to break other…

Great suggestion – CSV hasn’t been an area we’ve been looking into recently, but we’ll reconsider. It looks like this is starting to get some votes fairly quickly. If you like the idea, then please keep the votes coming! That’s the best way to help get this onto our engineering schedule.

  14. Support for Rose charts

Please could we have support for Rose charts. These are a form of Pie chart where the radius of the segment is used to represent an extra value. These are particular common in metrological, demographic, political and healthcare reporting.

For example a hospital may want to report on the number of admissions due to alcohol related violence by day of week. In a standard pie chart each wedge could be a day of the week and the angle of the wedge represents the number for that day of the week as a proportion of the total weekly admissions due to…

  15. Sensible date formatting on X-axis of XY-scatter charts

If the X-axis of an XY-scatter chart is DATES, then it would be great to have the option to select the x-axis category labels to be spaced by (eg) months, years, etc like you can do for a line-chart. The advantage of being able to use an XY-scatter chart with this proposed functionality is that not all plotted series have to share the same x-series. Thank you!

  16. Excel 2016 New Chart Types - Experiencing Major Problems

New Excel 2016 chart types Problems Experienced:
    Can't drag Title
    Can't drag Data Labels
    Can't drag Legend
Inserted Shapes/Text Boxes are not embedded within chart
    This is a problem.

There are some limitations with the new chart types introduced in Excel 2016. We are working on addressing the items that you have called out.

    Thanks,

  17. Modernize conditional formatting formula editing.

As of 2013, it conditional formatting formula editing is still inconsistent with the regular application, and makes it harder for users to learn conditional formatting, which is one of the more abstract concepts of the early Excel learning process.

Arrow keys are still modifying formulas rather than moving the cursor, for example.

Great suggestion, thanks David! And thanks to other people who took the time to clarify/comment on this one. There’s definitely room to tighten this experience up in a number of places. We’re getting a lot of traffic on the site, so please keep voting for the things you care about most to help us do a great job of prioritizing.

  18. Chart series formatting - UI overhaul

Formatting chart series is currently very cumbersome, particularly on a chart with many series.

SUGGESTION: make a *series formatting window* open up for a given chart.
-The window displays all series simultaneously (each series is one row). Each column is an attribute (e.g. line type, line width, marker type, marker line color, etc. etc.). All attributes are also shown simultaneously.
-It should be possible to easily copy attributes (only some, or all) from one series to another, or to multiple others simultaneously.
-It should be possible to define and save attribute sets for a series that can then be selected…

We are looking at several ways to make formatting easier. This is an interesting approach that we will consider.

  19. Adding a native interpolation function in Excel

Interpolation (even a simple linear interpolation) would be a great native function for Excel to have. Something like INTERPOLATE(KnownXRange,KnownYRange, NewX) would be fantastic for anyone who ever has to do this

The current workaround looks something like this:

    =FORECAST(NewX,OFFSET(KnownY,MATCH(NewX,KnownX,1)-1,0,2), OFFSET(KnownX,MATCH(NewX,KnownX,1)-1,0,2))

  20. If pasted text is auto converted to a date: _save_the_original_text_. Then give it back when text is desired. Don't corrupt data!

When people in computational biology paste a list of gene names sometimes genes like "SPET8" are in the list. The original value is lost, and now the column has corrupt data. (Why did you kill the original value?) Since the column of gene names usually goes off screen and is often in alphabetical order nobody notices this until something breaks in a bizarre way in another person's hands. Scientific papers have had corrupt data for this reason many times, and everyone advises each other to avoid excel for this reason. It might even make a difference for a clinical diagnosis.…
