This capability is not currently supported on any of our new chart types in O16. However, we are working on plans to support this functionality in the future.

    Thanks,
    Scott [MSFT]

  2. IP Address as a datatype.

I would love to see IP Addresses added as a format option and functions added for validation of the IP addresses..

    For instance InSubnet(Network as IP,Netmask as Integer,address as IP) to determine if an IP is within a Subnet;

Being able to do addition/subtraction on the field would be awesome as well!

Thanks for the suggestion Alex, and thanks to those that making their vote heard. This is a pretty interesting ask – take a look at the comment I made. I’d like us to understand a few related things. And as always, please keep voting for the things you care about most.

    Cheers,
    John [MS XL]

  3. Embed 3D maps in worksheets

Add the ability to embed 3D maps within an excel sheet. If you are making an excel-based dashboard, it would be great to have the capability to showcase the map right within the sheet instead of as a pop-out visual.

  4. Create DAX calculated measures in Excel for SSAS Tabular

Enable writing measures in DAX in a pivot table connected to Tabular or Power Pivot.
In practice, it would be enough to enable a choice between MDX and DAX in the "New Calculated Measure" dialog box and use the following syntax for creating a DAX measure instead of an MDX member in measures…

    CREATE SESSION MEASURE [Model].Sales[My Sales 2] = SUMX ( Sales, Sales[Quantity] * Sales[Unit Price] /5 )

I received this requests from several enterprise customers, but I think it's useful to any data analyst accessing tabular models (but you should be able to write DAX measures also for…

  5. Built-in RegEx / Regular Expressions Functions to Search, Extract, and Replace

I've constantly found myself installing and re-installing add-ins that add RegEx Functions to Excel. Everyone I introduce them too finds them extremely useful. There's over half a million results in google for the query ["excel" ("regular expression" OR "regex")].

  6. Intellisense for User Defined Functions

Currently User Defined Functions (UDFs) in Excel will not show intellisense to tell the user what arguments need to be supplied. This makes them very difficult to use.

    There's a discussion here:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16903587/the-quest-for-the-excel-custom-function-tooltip

Whether the future of UDFs is in VBA or something else, the ability to define intellisense is vital.

Thanks for the suggestion Nick. We’ve got some related work we’re looking at soon, and we’ll be sure to carefully consider if we can get a fix in for this then. As always, more votes helps – so keep voting for the things you care about most.

    Thanks,

  7. Two new =if's

Just like =IFERROR(), could we also get =IFBLANK() and =IFZERO(). I would use these on a regular basis, and it would cut in half the size of large formulas where I just want something specific to happen where the result is either blank or zero

  8. Auto resizing of formula bar

Give us an easily accessible option to have the formula bar resize automatically if a formula spans across multiple rows in the formula bar so the whole formula will be visible.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I’ve seen some related requests, I’ll look at merging them to make sure the votes properly reflect the ask. We’ll prioritize this into the execution pipe appropriately based on the number of votes.

  9. Workbook level calculation

We need the ability to calculate a single workbook when multiple workbooks are open.
When working with multiple large slow workbooks which are often not even linked together (think multiple versions of the same workbook or a large mostly static workbook being referenced by a smaller rapidly changing workbook) you want to make changes and recalculate without globally recalculating all open workbooks.
    This should be implemented as
    a) New calculation setting (persistent) - Calculate Active Workbook Only - works for Automatic and Manual F9, but Ctrl/Alt/F9 would full calculate all open workbooks regardless of the setting.
    Automatic Calc in Active…

Thanks for the post Charles, and for the in person conversation at the latest MVP conference. We definitely understand the ask and will keep our eye on it – it looks like it’s moving up the vote charts pretty quickly. As always, keep upvoting the things you are about most.

  10. Remember the chart type, chart formatting (and template) on Pivot Charts

When you're charting a pivot table and have a combo chart - say stacked bar chart with a line chart - and you filter your pivot table so that one of the stacked bar elements disappears, the chart replaces the missing element from the line chart. Remove the filter and your line chart is still part of the stacked bar chart.

I'd like the pivot chart elements to remain in their place even when there's nothing to show because of the filter.

Additionally, any formatting applied via Chart Templates to Pivot Charts is lost on Pivoting, etc. - this formatting…

  11. Better compatiity with the Surface Pen

With the surface pen, users should be able to write in any cell on a spreadsheet and excel will automatically convert the handwriting to digital numbers or letters when the user starts writing in a different cell (or maybe after users draw a special characters like a check mark or something like that to signal to excel that the user is done writing in that cell.)

  12. Rotate sunburst chart (& other controls)

LOVE THE NEW SUNBURST. Great work, guys - please keep it up. Would like ability to rotate the sunburst chart (just like we can with the regular pie chart) and have much more control over the final product, such as: ability to turn visibility on or off for any segment (sometimes really important segments are not labelled because they are relatively small - please give us control), more control over colors of segments and sub-segments, better font size & text rotation of labels, more data label options such as pop-out / data callout and other options found on pie chart.

  13. Conditional formatting in charts

Add Conditional formatting in charts to control the colour of e.g. a bar or line, depending on the value or content of the data labels. Green if appels, Yellow if bananas and so on.

  14. R in Excel (RRO + MKL as scripting language in Excel)

    Microsoft recently acquired Revolution Analytics:

    http://revolutionanalytics.com/

Revolution R Open with MKL is an open source derivative of R (RRO + MKL). Adding-in RRO to Excel is a natural fit and will extend the scripting utility of .xlsx in Enterprise environment. The package developments alone are worth considering this integration.

  15. Use F4 key to lock reference in a table

When you create formula with the named range of a table, you can't easily block the reference of your column.

For instance, if you used the fill-handle to copy to the right, the reference of your column will change :( The only way to avoid that is to write [[column1]:[column1]] for all your reference (very annoying)

So my suggestion to block the reference of a named range is to use the F4 key.
Your formula is =SUM(table1[column1]) and after pressing F4 it becomes =SUM(table1[[column1]:[column1]])

Thanks for your input. This limitation is true for all of the new chart types released in Office 2016; e.g. waterfall, histogram, treemap, etc. This is functionality we are assessing to enable for the new chart types. Please continue to vote on this feature idea.

  17. Tighter integration with MS Access

Tighter integration with MS Access - improve (expand) object model to provide more powerful and transparent integration between Access, Excel and Word. Make it easier to create visual models using flexibility of Excel column / Row structure using MS Access datasets and VBA code.

  18. Improve the Conditional Formatting Manager

So that we can easily manage conditional formatting. While we're at it, the way conditional formatting is treated when cutting / copying and pasting etc could be reconsidered.

[Following examples added by Dan [MS] for clarity on 10/20/2015]
    * name rules
    * add a comment to rules
    * more easily see what rules apply to what range
    * see which rules can be consolidated b/c they are similar
    * etc.

  19. What-if Data Table calc should use multi-threading

Calculation Performance of iterative what-if Data Tables is unnecessarily slow. The reasons seem to be (in priority sequence):
    - each iteration is using single-threaded recalculation rather than multi-threaded
    - the overhead for the whole table calculation looks larger than it should be
    - the process starts with a recalc, then does each iteration, then ends with a recalc: the first recalc is unnecessary
    - if the values to be used in one of the iterations are the same as the start values the recalc for that set of values could be skipped

  20. Protect me from #REF! ambushes

Every so often I delete cells and unbeknownst to me create a bunch of #REF! errors in another part of my worksheet. I may not realize until much later when I can no longer undo back to fix the error. Excel could spare me this. If my deletion is about to create #REF!s it should bring up an alert like "Other cells depend on the cells you are about to delete. Would you like Excel to adjust their formulas to avoid #REF! errors? [Yes][No][Cancel]. [No] would do what it does today. [Cancel] would abort the operation. [Yes] would smartly substitute…
