  1. Reinstate the ability to open multiple workbooks in a single instance in Excel

    I do not understanding the logic behind your decision to remove the ability to open multiple workbooks in a single instance in Excel. The only benefit is the ability to immediately move work books to two separate screens basically giving the ability to do the simple task of copy and paste. FYI: available on all spreadsheets!!! What made Excel a valuable tool was it ability to reduce time by accumulating data from multiple workbooks instantly and limiting the use of resources (ram).     • Excel 2016 : ClearContents is 3 times slower than Excel2010

      My customers reported me that my product (Excel Addin) becomes slower after they updated Excel from 2010 to 2016.
      By analyzing the problem it turned out that main reason of the slow performance is 'ClearContents'.
      I setup two same hardware condition machine. I installed Win10 into them. Then I installed Excel 2010 on the machine A.
      And I installed Excel 2016 on the machine B.
      By using the following code, I measured the time to ClearContens.

      It takes 2859 ms on Excel2010 (A) . It takes 9719 ms on Excel2016 (B).

      Generally thinking , a customer will expect faser performance…

      • improve convert to number from right click menu

        When Excel detects a range stored as text it gives a icon that you can click to convert the strings to numbers. This however is incredibly slow when applied to a range, it takes more than 1 sec per entry on my i5 windows machine. For a range of 1000+ this take unbearably long without opportunity to interrupt.

        I wrote a VBA code that simply does a .value = .value and pastes the range back into the sheet. This is 100s of times faster that Excel's built in functionality. Please improve the built-in function's performance

        • Bad idea removing the ability to open multiple worksheets same instance because all links are now broken.

          The idea of separately opening multiple workbooks kills the ability of the function of excel. I was under the impression that excel was deigned to improve productivity and to give us data we can use. Multiple workbooks in the same window linked and data flowed freely. This feature is extremely valuable as results are generated on a single spreadsheet rather than creating on enormous file.             Utilizzando Excel 2010 ed anche Word 2010 e scegliendo da file -->salva e invia --->invia come allegato, ottengo come errore

            "Errore generale della posta elettronica chiudere excel, riavviare il sistema di posta elettronica e riprovare".

            Stessa identico messaggio se provo ad inviare l'allegato tramite le altre opzioni disponibili.

            Faccio presente che questo errore è nato da un giorno all’altro dopo che ieri Windows 10 ha fatto l’aggiornamento (2017-12 Aggiornamento Cumulativo per Windows10 versione 1709 per sistemi basati su x64 KB4054517).

              • Search function in Excel does not seem to search for values, only cells

                When I try to find a specific number that has been copied or calculated in a spreadsheet, it tells me that it does not exist, unless the number was hard coded into the cell. In other words, it doesn't solve formulas or follow cell back-references to find the requested number. Thus, it is almost useless in a complicated speadsheet with lots of formulas!

                    I think this link explains a lot... an auto save feature which:

                    1. works
                    2. doesn't need to be saved in the one drive
                    3. available to everyone seeing autosave is as basic as a power cable coming with your computer
                    4. auto save feature works
                    5. a microsoft product works

                    I can't be bothered to run through it all again, just read the following post which I found incredibly useful (sarcasm)

                    Regarding auto-save, it is such a basic option, why should it only be available to Office 365 customers? What guarantees are there that it will work?

                      • automatically remove unused ranges when saving (control file size)

                        Today, if a file becomes bloated due to empty range being tagged as "used", it is possible to go through each worksheet, delete the blank ranges of rows or columns after the real data, and resave to shrink the file.

                        Would it be possible to improve Excel's algorithm to identify used ranges, and re-scan files during the save process to reduce range sizes automatically, and save users from this file bloat?

                        It seems like it would be easy to detect cells without contents, so I'm guessing the current algorithm is looking at applied styles or something similar. If that were…

                        • Keep offline help for both EXCEL and VBA

                          Please return offline help like in Excel 2010 (for VBA and Excel)... It is enugh to have just basic offline help without totally up to date informations in 98% cases.

                            • Excel 2016

                              When I scroll or navigate around on Excel 2016, the cursor swooshes and jiggles around before it settles into the new location.
                              --scrolling is rough
                              --I slide the bar left/right or up/down and it shakes when I let up on the click. Aaaaaahhhhhhh!
                              --I click on a different cell and it swooshes into the new location.

                              My brain is concentrating on the complicated spreadsheet, but the dancing round the spreadsheet is TOTALLY DISTRACTING AND ANNOYING. Please take out the swooshing, jiggling and shaking and let us go back to concentrating on our work.

                              • Make using the border facility much easier.

                                Please restore the facility to drag the box containing icons used to add borders round cells to wherever one wants it on a sheet. If one needs to use these tools a lot, having to move the cursor back and forth across the screen is very tedious. It was much easier to locate the box adjacent to the part of the sheet one is working on. Any other functions that one could drag similarly in the past should also be restored in the same way.

                                      Attached the sample file, with freeze panel at Column C.
                                      Try browse the column further right till any Column W for example, and stop at beside Column C.
                                      Click to highlight whole Column W
                                      Then hold it and quickly drag the mouse to Column C, which try to highlight few Column backward from Column W.
                                      But the highlighted column will start from more right side of column and slowly reverse back to Column W and only continue to Column V onward..
                                      If not, try to drag few more time from different column, which must beside Column C, and don't drag…

                                      • Revert to Office being on device and NOT "Click to run".

                                        I suffer from variable upload and download speeds depending on traffic volumes. It has been the same for over 10 years and a variety of ISP's. Recent conversion to "Click to run" has resulted in serious problems in opening the service and files on One Drive, causing severe interruption to my work.

                                        Is there anyway to download to my device as was the norm up to the recent versions as an option?

                                          When I copy from a webpage it generally fails. I end up pasting to Word (still a bit slow) then I copy from Word to Excel. If I need to paste to a single cell, a direct paste to the formula bar (not the cell) works fine
