  1. Link the min and max values of a chart axis to cell value

It would be nice to be able to link the min and/or max value of an chart axis to a cell reference instead of manual enter the value or the auto function.

    • Allow new chart types (treemap, sunburst, etc) to also be used as pivot charts.

The new chart types are really interesting, however; they would be much more useful if they could also be tied to a pivot table. This would make them much more dynamic in nature.

Along the same line, it would be very beneficial to allow the interactivity on the charts to cross filter objects tied to the same data source. For example, if I click on a department in my treemap chart it would then filter the pivot table below to only the department I clicked on.

        • Chart series formatting - UI overhaul

Formatting chart series is currently very cumbersome, particularly on a chart with many series.

SUGGESTION: make a *series formatting window* open up for a given chart.
-The window displays all series simultaneously (each series is one row). Each column is an attribute (e.g. line type, line width, marker type, marker line color, etc. etc.). All attributes are also shown simultaneously.
-It should be possible to easily copy attributes (only some, or all) from one series to another, or to multiple others simultaneously.
-It should be possible to define and save attribute sets for a series that can then be selected…

          • Sensible date formatting on X-axis of XY-scatter charts

If the X-axis of an XY-scatter chart is DATES, then it would be great to have the option to select the x-axis category labels to be spaced by (eg) months, years, etc like you can do for a line-chart. The advantage of being able to use an XY-scatter chart with this proposed functionality is that not all plotted series have to share the same x-series. Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback. This is a great suggestion. We’ll definitely consider it as we plan the next round of features. Please continue voting on this feature request which will increase its likelihood of getting in the product.

              Thanks,

            • Conditional formatting in charts

Add Conditional formatting in charts to control the colour of e.g. a bar or line, depending on the value or content of the data labels. Green if appels, Yellow if bananas and so on.

Good idea. We are definitely considering chart conditional formatting for a future release. Please continue to vote on it.

However, could you further elaborate on what you mean by “the value or content of the data labels”? Is the following scenario what you are looking for?

                Scenario
Create a column chart that shows sales for various stores. (Sales on Y axis, Stores on X Axis.) Use color to represent the profitability of each store. Profit is a numerical value. (Bars in the chart show a gradient fill from green to red where green is high profit and red is low profit.)

                Thanks,
                Scott [MSFT]

              • Remember the chart type, chart formatting (and template) on Pivot Charts

When you're charting a pivot table and have a combo chart - say stacked bar chart with a line chart - and you filter your pivot table so that one of the stacked bar elements disappears, the chart replaces the missing element from the line chart. Remove the filter and your line chart is still part of the stacked bar chart.

I'd like the pivot chart elements to remain in their place even when there's nothing to show because of the filter.

Additionally, any formatting applied via Chart Templates to Pivot Charts is lost on Pivoting, etc. - this formatting…

                • SVG

                  Export to SVG:

One of the features we heavily use today is exporting Excel files to SVG. Unfortunately, the process to achieve this is quite a few steps: 1 export to pdf, 2.use inkscape to convert pdf to svg, 3. clear any formatting issues and save to SVG. It would be really awesome to be able to export directly from Excel to SVG. Since excel supports export to PDF, and PDF is vector based, I would hope an export to SVG would be pretty easy to add. Happy to provide examples of what we are doing.

                  • Add a zoom feature to charts

In any line chart sometimes the lines are so close that we can not see the differences. Especially when we add one (or more) trend lines.

At this point we need to zoom into the chart.

This is an interesting idea. Could you provide an example of the layout that is of interest? Is it simply a 90 deg. rotation of what we have in XL 2016?

                        • Drag and Drop Chart Elements

Rather than fiddling around with various settings in a chart (such as moving the chart axis from the top to the bottom after reversing category order on a bar chart, or repositioning the chart title, or moving a legend, or changing the order of legend entries, etc.), why not give us a drag-and-drop UI for chart elements?

LOVE THE NEW SUNBURST. Great work, guys - please keep it up. Would like ability to rotate the sunburst chart (just like we can with the regular pie chart) and have much more control over the final product, such as: ability to turn visibility on or off for any segment (sometimes really important segments are not labelled because they are relatively small - please give us control), more control over colors of segments and sub-segments, better font size & text rotation of labels, more data label options such as pop-out / data callout and other options found on pie chart.

                            • Scatter Charts with Group-By from third data series

This is a basic charting function that falls in the gap between regular Scatter charts and also Pivot Charts. You should be able to plot Y against X while grouping by a third column of categories. This might be helpful in other chart types too, though is particularly vital for scatter charts.

The question was asked here on SuperUser:
                              http://superuser.com/questions/750353/excel-scatter-plot-with-multiple-series-from-1-table

I believe it would work better for this functionality to be brought into Pivot Charts in preference to regular charts - regular charts break too easily when data changes, while Pivot charts are quick to set up and have most…

That is a pretty clever workaround on SuperUser to plot a multi-series aggregated scatter chart. Properly supporting this scenario in PivotCharts is something we are discussing. Please continue to vote on this feature suggestion which will increase the likelihood of it getting in the product.

                              • Easy method for exporting charts to other formats

Currently it is not possible to easily export excel charts to other formats (e.g. png, eps, pdf, etc.) even in the excel 2016. The ability to do so easily (via the context menu for example) without the need to use any external software would be so handy.

Today, this can be done via a VBA macro. However, we can definitely see the value in doing this through the UI. We’ll consider this in our future planning.

                                  8/5/16
We’ll be posting to the Excel UserVoice home page, the features which we’ll be implementing in the near future. To be clear though, we are focusing on features which have the highest customer interest which typically have hundreds of votes.

                                  • Create Vector Sparklines for easy scalability and use in Powerpoint or other programs

Exporting sparklines from Excel is not very flexible. When copying and pasting sparklines into a PPT placeholder, the placeholder must be exactly the height of what is being pasted or the sparklines appear in the wrong size.

Scaling the sparklines up results in a highly pixelated image and reduces the usefulness of sparklines across different programs. Creating a way to have vector-based sparklines without a background fill that can scale would be amazing.

                                    • Coloring chart items by referencing to fix RGB-colors

If you create several charts in a workbook file or creating several charts in different workbooks you have to control, that a special item has the same color in any of these charts.
In an enterprise environment this is a special need for reporting. You have to do it manually and you have to control any chart after updating because of filtering, resorting or adding new items.

I imagine, that there could be an option button, that connects a chart to a reference file. This file can be stored locally or in an enterprise environment. The named items of a…

                                      • Allow users to control the order of items in the sunburst chart.

I'm using a sunburst chart to convey status, and visually it would be nice to have the chart in the same order as the items I want to talk about them, so the discussion flows clockwise around the wheel. Having an option for the layout to follow the order in the excel list would be wonderful

                                        • In EXCEL Formula Bar: Allow display of formulas/equations in standard math format (visual friendly) [aka equation plotting]

Allow toggle between math Formula display (easy to read math...think TI89, mathCAD, WolframAlpha, etc) and the single line that goes on forever. Even better, as you are typing in the formula bar, allow for the visual display of what the formula/equation would look like if you wrote it out by hand, or used a program like the above.

Verifying formulas in Excel is extremely challenging due to having to follow references, AND keeping track of multiple parenthesis, division and other mathematical operators. This would be a tremendous time saver for verifying formulas/equations are correct.

EXAMPLE: To see what I mean,…
