  1. True Dark Mode

Actually make the dark mode for Excel change the working document's background colour black/dark without needing to format.

  2. Make Excel obey the "scroll inactive windows" setting in Windows 10 (resubmitted Aug 2020)

Make Excel obey the "scroll inactive windows" setting in Windows 10. Currently Excel will scroll when it is an inactive window, but it will not allow other windows to scroll when it is the active window. This makes transcribing data from a source that needs to be scrolled difficult.

This idea was apparently fixed in 2018 (link below) but perhaps something broke it, as it is present at this time, evidenced also by the long comment thread in the "completed" item.

    Please fix this again.

  3. A "Back" button that would take the user to the previous worksheet

I've always dreamed of a button where I could just hit back and I would be taken to the previous worksheet I was just working on.

The problem is, you can't easily create this with VBA. If you run a macro to record a user's action, you break the undo chain.

The back button would make a perfect and homey addition to a quick access toolbar.

  4. Real time results for formula bar in the cell

If landed on a cell, the formula bar gets started in select all mode(screenshot) and the result gets displayed in the cell with a different colour (to mention its result of a formula and not a absolute value) rather than displaying the formula itself again(current feature)

But, any arrow key input navigates the cell and not the formula bar unless its clicked on

This way, no compromises to the current feature is made and any corrections can be rectified easily.

  6. Please make Excel again obey the "Scroll inactive windows" setting in Windows 10

An update within the last quarter of 2020 messed with excel and the "Scroll inactive windows" setting for windows 10 is now no longer followed by Excel

    Please fix this once again.

  7. "Worksheet Sorter" for Excel

A useful tool in PowerPoint is the "Slide Sorter" which allows you to quickly view, navigate and rearrange many slides. I think adding a "Worksheet Sorter" in Excel's "View" tab would be just as useful, and would make navigating 20+ worksheets much, much easier. If you agree with me please vote!

  8. Mouse Scroller Scrolls Wrong Window

When a mouse scroll event is generated, Excel applies the action to the active window regardless of the Excel window over which the mouse icon is currently located. It should apply it to the window over which the mouse icon is currently located - even if that window is inactive.

Open two Excel workbooks where both are at least partially visible in the desktop area. Move the mouse over the non-active window and scroll - the active window scrolls, not the inactive window. Move the mouse over any area NOT in either window and no scrolling takes place. Excel is…

  9. Sheet View - behavior of Default

There is a behavior documented here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/sheet-views-in-excel-0eea3dc5-d7d1-44c5-a953-25ebfbd6c1a6
and it works like designed: "When you use Sheet View in desktop Excel and save your document, any sorts and filters you have made will appear in the Default view for all users. Sheet Views are not affected."
But: Why do you then call it "Default" ? It should be like "last applied view"
It's really very confusing - as if someone opens this excel, anyone else in a "sheet view", modifies the used Filter-Range, it will be modified also in <Default>-View, as this shows the latest change of ANY Filter-adoption in sheet…

  10. Give users option to display multiple workbooks in a single window like pages in a web browser

In edge, chrome, firefox, etc a user can open 1, 2, 3, or 100 pages inside one browser window, then easily switch between them. Let's bring that same simplicity to excel!

  11. Enable scrolling through Sheets

For those who create numerous excel sheets below, it would be easier to access sheets, if navigating through scrolling was enabled. Or even a feature to alphabetically arrange sheets for easy navigation. Currently, the process of macro for the alphabetical arrangement of sheets is too technical.

  15. Zoom Previous

Add a Zoom Previous button for working in/on workbooks with multiple sheets and/or for working on sheets that have a very large viewing area.

For reviewing data in an Index then ctrl+F to find a specific referenced cell to make a change to source data, then ZOOM PREVIOUS to go back to start reviewing where you left off.

  16. Allow Excel Worksheet tabs to be aligned diagonally or vertically.

I am designing worksheets with multiple tabs for users pensioners unfamiliar with Excel at anything more than a basic level. Allowing worksheet tabs to be displayed vertically or diagonally would make the spreadsheet user friendly avoiding oversight of worksheets not visible on the ribbon.

  17. On the large and colourful Excel spreadsheets the CELL CURSOR is difficult to find- a format option would help your customers

On the large and colourful Excel spreadsheets the CELL CURSOR is very difficult to find and causes me delay and inefficiency- may I humbly suggest that a 'format option' for the 'cell cursor' may greatly help your customers- either a transparent colour or bolder cursor option such as existed on Supercalc many years ago would help no end. (an option for this under 'Settings' doesn't appear to currently exist)

  18. Have the ability to change the input cell format in Excel

Writing this for the second time: the feint green cell input colour and border thickness is far to difficult to see when moving around and sorting spreadsheets. Notice that all your MS Excel Training videos have a great, black coloured thick, very obvious input box - need to have the ability to change this in defaults or wherever...see attached

  19. It would to be able to create a 'bookmark' row or column for quick Navigate

When you hit ctl+arrow (up/down/left/right) the cursor jumps to the next bit of data, then subsequently, the end of the data set. It would be good if you could 'bookmark' a column or row (maybe multiple) so that the ctl+arrow doesn't go to the end of the data set or workbook- e.g. if you have a lot of monthly data then multiple Year Totals it would be handy when you wish to copy formulas but not into the year totals (or not to the very last column in the spreadsheet if there is no data!). This can be worked around…

  20. Restore the ability to freeze more then one row across the top of the file.

In a former version of Excel, I could freeze in place the top two rows across the top of my worksheet, this function no longer works but it is great if a user [laces headers and useful information across the top.
