  1. List sheet names vertically in a scrolling list sidepanel

The current way of navigating sheets is extremely slow and strenous and should be obsoleted and replaced with a vertically scrollable list sidepanel without the need of 3rd party add-ins.

  2. True Dark Mode

Actually make the dark mode for Excel change the working document's background colour black/dark without needing to format.

  3. Make Excel obey the "scroll inactive windows" setting in Windows 10 (resubmitted Aug 2020)

Make Excel obey the "scroll inactive windows" setting in Windows 10. Currently Excel will scroll when it is an inactive window, but it will not allow other windows to scroll when it is the active window. This makes transcribing data from a source that needs to be scrolled difficult.

This idea was apparently fixed in 2018 (link below) but perhaps something broke it, as it is present at this time, evidenced also by the long comment thread in the "completed" item.

    Please fix this again.

  4. "Worksheet Sorter" for Excel

A useful tool in PowerPoint is the "Slide Sorter" which allows you to quickly view, navigate and rearrange many slides. I think adding a "Worksheet Sorter" in Excel's "View" tab would be just as useful, and would make navigating 20+ worksheets much, much easier. If you agree with me please vote!

  5. Give users option to display multiple workbooks in a single window like pages in a web browser

In edge, chrome, firefox, etc a user can open 1, 2, 3, or 100 pages inside one browser window, then easily switch between them. Let's bring that same simplicity to excel!

  7. User usage tracking

Would be great to have a way to monitor the usage of an Excel File. working in Finance, many of the reports we produce can be used or not used. having a mechanism for a file author to get usage statistics would be super helpful. for example each time the report is being opened it pings the server and let the author know through a report sent weekly or daily (customizable).

  9. Scroll to "Last/First sheet" buttons

The current way of navigating sheets is slow and strenous, the "Scroll to last/first sheet" buttons were available before next to the " scroll to next/prev sheet" buttons then they have been removed.
So, please bring back the "Scroll to last/first sheet" buttons.

  12. "Pin to Frozen"

I like freezing columns and rows, but in very large sheets, I sometimes want to freeze one of the columns in the middle of my range. I have this idea where I would right click on a column letter and select "Pin to Frozen" which lifts that column and sends it to the right-hand side (maybe even as part of a stack of frozen columns). It makes freezing more accessible and also saves time hiding and unhiding columns.

  13. Shortcut for changing sheets

There is no shortcut for switching sheets within workbook. Such shortcut would be very useful. I suggest Ctrl+Tab as this is common shortcut for switching tab like controls.

Actually, Ctrl+Tab for next sheet and Ctrl+Shift+Tab for previous sheet.

  14. Nested sheets

At the bottom of the screen is a row of worksheets. However when you get to Workbooks that contain say 20 or 30 or 50 worksheets, it becomes a true disaster to navigate around that many sheets. What would be very helpful would be if you could expand to two rows at the bottom. That in itself would be helpful. But the really neat thing would be is if you could nest-sheets within like a high level. So perhaps like a folder with sheets inside of it. So you have one row that is all the folders and then inside…

  15. Please implement a feature to block a popup window which inform us to use the latest method for shared workbooks

Every time we use the Share Workbook (Legacy) option to share the item by following the steps in the public information, we always see the popup window that prompts us to use the latest method for shared workbook function. But I prefer to use the Share Workbook (Legacy) option, so it would be great if you could implement a feature to block the popup window.
This is the reference for the steps, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/what-happened-to-shared-workbooks-150fc205-990a-4763-82f1-6c259303fe05?ui=en-us&rs=en-us&ad=us

  17. Provide a standard function called "Last()" which will find (and/or go to) the last populated cell, column or row in a worksheet

This function would find (and/or go to) the address of:

    (a) the last populated cell in a designated column or row or range in a specified worksheet; OR

    (b) the last populated row or column in a worksheet.

These would be particularly helpful options when, for example, the user wants to specify the extent of a range, which has a moving target for the last cell in the desired range.

Similarly, a function called "First()" would help in finding and/or specifying the start of a desired range in a worksheet.

It might even be practical for any such functions to…

  18. When selecting a cell in Excel it would be good to highlight the entire cells of the row and column of that cell. Not select, just highlight

When selecting a cell in Excel it would be good to highlight the entire cells of the row and column of that cell. Not select, just highlight. It will make our life easier to millions of people that have to analyze data in large excel sheets.

  19. Scroll between tabs with mouse scroll wheel

Excel should let you scroll from one tab to the next by just using the mouse scroll wheel. Google Sheets has this functionality and it's really convenient.

  20. Allow Outlining (Grouping/Ungrouping) for protected worksheets without the need for VBA

Excel should allow for outlining (Grouping/Ungrouping) for protected worksheets without the need for VBA. A user should be able to still select the + and - expand/collapse buttons for grouped rows or columns, when a sheet is protected. There is a VBA work around for this, but not all users can have macros enabled on their networks and some users may even struggle to open Macro-enabled workbooks. There should be a select/deselect option when protecting a worksheet, to allow/disallow the clicking of the + or - group buttons. Ultimately, it's only to allow a user to expand these groups from…
