  1. When resizing columns, let you make fine adjustments by holding down shift key

When you resize columns, it can be a pain to get the right pixel width. So what if users could hold down the shift key while resizing the column and it would do it in a fine adjustment mode. In this mode, the column won't be exactly where the cursor is - it will shift about one third as far as you move the cursor left or right. So you can see it move and see the pixel count adjust, but the mouse response is dampened so it's easier to get the exact width

  2. Excel Footer too many charaters

Our Standard footer has more characters than the allowed limit in Excel 2016. The only work around we have had so far is to convert to an image and paste it into excel.

  4. Move background fill with the data when sorting

When sorting cells that have a background fill move, provide the option to move the fill with the cell. Currently, if I manually apply a fill to some cells based on random criteria and then sort my data, the location of the background fill is static and doesn't move with the data. It would be very helpful to move the background fill with the data to make to make it easier to see the new location of the data.

  5. Distinguish inputs (hardcodes), cell references (formulas) with a default font color coding option.

It would be incredibly time saving to have the option to automatically format by font color a workbook, worksheet, or selection based on whether the cells are inputs (hardcodes), references within the tab, references to another tab or another workbook. The functionality would be very practical if the option to add/edit the default colors for this auto-formatting action existed.

  6. Divide by Zero

Please create automatic handling of Divide by Zero errors, so that users don't need to create IF functions around the majority of formulas. For example the user could select what result is applied across the entire workbook when a DIV0 errors occurs. Commonly I use an IF function to set the result back to Zero again such as:
    =IF(Denominator=0,0,Calculation)

  7. Revert back to adjusting the number rows or columns of merged cells.

In the prior version of Excel, if you wanted to add or remove a row or column that was part of a merged cell you were able to easily delete the row or column in question without deleting the entire merged cell.

  10. Right click to change multiple column widths

Reinstate the ability to change the width of multiple columns at one time. Selection via left mouse click with right click opening a menu with the option would fast and intuitive.

  11. fix what worked before in Microsoft Office which now does not work in Windows 10.

Instead of trying to add new features. How about fix what is there but does not work properly? Fix what worked before in Microsoft Office does not work in Windows 10. Trying to format dates is ridiculous!

  12. Disable Formating on Sheet

We desperately need a SIMPLE way to prevent users from jeopardizing the templates while still allowing them to copy/paste.

Even if a Sheet is protected and Cell formatting is not allowed, any user can copy a range from somewhere else, Paste it over the non protected cells and destroy the existing formatting, conditional formatting etc...

My suggestion is to add an option to the Protect Sheet options window, allowing to disable any formatting change in the sheet (see picture).
Disable would mean format changes would be ignored when pasting, whatever Paste command is used (everything is pasted except all related…

  13. Allow for fixed-magnitude exponential number format

Currently, Excel 2016 allows me to format a number in scientific notation and fix the number of displayed decimal places - any number would show as X.XXXX EX. Could y'all add an option where I can have a number display with the same power of 10? For example, I could format an entire column to show all numbers as ##### E-05, with up to 4 decimal places.

  15. copy-paste formatting options icons: let's make them more intuitive

    hi guys,

I've always found the existing copy-paste formatting option icons in Excel and other MS Office programmes a bit confusing and I had to hover a mouse over to see what they are meant to do (an example attached). Could we please simplify them and make more intuitive?

    Thanks,
    Ivan

  16. Please add this icon to the conditional formatting icon sets.

under conditional formatting and in the directional icon sets, there are no back arrows or diagonal back arrows (reverse arrows!!! pointing to the left). If you could add this icons to the new updates this will be so appreciating.

  17. Conditional Formatting caused a huge delays when undoing a paste (or using CTRL-Z)

With 16 GB of RAM and a super fast processor undoing (or ctrl - z) of a paste takes 2 minutes to undo conditional formatted cells.

If you copy bunch of cells, paste them on a new Excel or same Excel document, and then attempt to undo the paste, it takes 2 to 3 minutes. Pasting it does not take that long.

  18. Customize Cells with their own Prefix or Suffix

Format a cell or group of cells, rows, or columns so that when a number or any text is entered into subject cell(s) a prefix or suffix will appear next to (in front or behind) that number or text. eg. "31 Amps" or "11 Hrs" or "101 km/hr"

Maybe in the "custom" field of "Format Cells", there could be an "Add Custom Prefix" and "Add Custom Suffix" button which allows entry of the required Prefix or Suffix.

  19. disable text to columns

I can't disable text to columns. After its first use, Excel forces every subsequent paste to be Delimited. I need Excel to paste without manipulating into columns but cannot turn this feature off. Very frustrating!

  20. conditional formating with icons to compare a value in the same column

With the cell just up the active cell, it's impossible. Possible with the first value on the op of the column.
INDIRECT and INDEX are not supported.

    With icons (ie:arrow up:down)
to see if the value is the same, greater or lower than the value in the just up the activecell. To see the progression.

    Thanks
