  2. Global Header/Footer formatting

    In Excel files containing more than one sheet, it is already possible to format the page setup for all sheets in the file "in one go", but with only with some limitations. For instance, the "Rows to repeat at top" field is not available when more than one sheet is active. Another limitation is that if you add more sheets to an already formatted file, there is no easy way to apply the Page Setup settings used for the 'old' sheets to the 'new' sheets (if you want to have the new sheets formatted the same way as the old…

  3. Add more formatting options to Paste Special

    It would be handy to be able to use Paste Special to copy and paste selectable formatting from cell to cell.

    For example, the Paste Special dialog box would have a command button that opens up a dialog box similar to the 'Format Cells' box.

    However, this would have checkboxes next to each formatting feature that turns on/off copy/pasting that attribute.

    For example, if I wanted to copy a border between cells, I would Copy the cell, open Paste Special, press the aforementioned command button, check the checkbox next to 'Border>Line' and 'Border>Border' (to say that I want to copy…

  4. merge cells without loosing their value

    when merging cells, top left cell will contain its value while other cells will loose it. there should be an option in merge cells functionality to keep their values. there is a workaround for this however a straight simple command would be good

  6. Tab Color - Pictures

    each workbook has different sheet i.e. I can name each sheet as a country name and chose a color for it. will be nice if we can select picture also with the color so each workbook has different sheets and down instead of colors it can be pictures.
    so if the workbook has different sheets of countries I can put flag, for football team analysis put team pictures :)

  7. UPC

    Add a format for UPC codes- right now it formats UPCs as numbers, and formatting as text still causes the UPC to lose leading 0's and become scientific notation when you save the file as a CSV. If the UPC code is changed in any way, it will not read correctly. GoogleSheets has an option for this, where it stops auto-formatting and leaves the UPC as plain text.

  8. Brackets for Currency and Accounting formats

    Bring back the Brackets for Currency and Accounting formats.

    I just recently updated to Office 2016 from 2010 and I cannot believe that the Brackets have been removed from these format options. Can you please put them back. This is a standard format in the Accounting Profession. I see that this feature has been added back to Excel for MAC

  10. Improve the Conditional Formatting Manager

    So that we can easily manage conditional formatting. While we're at it, the way conditional formatting is treated when cutting / copying and pasting etc could be reconsidered.

    [Following examples added by the Excel team for clarity]
    * name rules
    * add a comment to rules
    * more easily see what rules apply to what range
    * see which rules can be consolidated b/c they are similar
    * have an option to LOCK THE RANGES so they never change no matter what cells in the sheet get moved or copied or deleted, either manually or by adjusting pivot tables

    Thanks for your support of this suggestion and all the great ideas in the comments. We have at least one improvement planned (resizing the dialogs – see link in the description), and we’re looking at some additional improvements.

  11. Copy Conditional Formatting

    Allow users to copy conditional formatting rules. For example, I am trying to pair down 240 columns by marking them as "Keep" (green), "Review" (yellow) and "Delete" (pink) using data validation and conditional formatting. It would be nice if I could set up a conditional formatting formula once and then copy and adapt it to the next criteria.

  13. Integrate "Clean excess cell formatting" from Inquire into standard Excel function

    The Inquire has a really great function - clean excess cell formatting, but it is unavailable in many editions and because it is not installed by default even when plugin is present - nobody uses it, but after all people continue to wonder "why my spreadsheet with small table is 19 megabytes"... Would be great to have that function in standard "Clean" menu on the main tab. And would be perfect to have all Inquire functions to be integrated. Just like Spreadsheet compare should have been standard Excel function since people started sharing tons of Excel files

  14. Add an easy way (Ribbon button) to change text casing (UPPER, lower, Sentence, etc.)

    Currently Excel is the only Office application that doesn't have the ribbon-button to change selected text to uppercase or lowercase.
    The only way to do it is to use the function =UPPER() and then copy/paste the resulted value into the original cell.
    It would be good to have a button to change the selected text to uppercase or lowercase.

  15. Unable to Delete / Hide / Add columns when cells are merged

    When you have merged cells on top and then unmerged cells below (merged cells will be a header for January and unmerged cells would be data points like Salary / Budget / Available) you are unable to add / remove / hide specific columns, if you select the Salary column and click hide / insert or delete excel will delete the 3 columns since they are merged together. This bug was not present in earlier verions of excel.

  16. Preserve formatting when pasting text copied from one cell into another

    If formatted text is copied from one cell and pasted into another cell, the formatting is not preserved. Please make Excel preserve formatting.

  17. Percentage Point Formatting

    It's very common to express a decimal as percentage points.

    For example Growth last year was 10%. This year is 15%. The change is 5 percentage points, but saying growth increased by 5% would be confusing (5% increase of 10% is 10.5%)

    It would be nice to able to format the value to appear as 5 without having to multiply the true decimal value by 100. Alternatively if I could get the effect of using a "%" sign in the number formatting string without having "%" appear in the cell, that would work as well.

  18. Filtered Columns - change colour of icon

    When a filter is applied in a header row, the filtered column(s) gets a "Funnel" icon to indicate that it has been filtered. In a row where multiple filters have been applied, if, in addition to having the funnel icon, the "filtered" icons came in a different colour - say a limited choice of colours for the user to pick from - then that would make the filtered columns easier to spot. For a user looking for the first time at a file and wanting to find what columns have been filtered, having the "filtered" icons in a different colour…

  19. Add imperial measurement notation. 1 field with feet and inches. Abillity to recognize input format and convert to chosen display format

    I want to formata cell as a certain measurement system, feet and inches, millimeters, meters, inches only, feet only, miles etc .
    The field should be smart enough to recognize the input and convert to the display format.

    If i choose to display in feet only and I input 2'6" it should show as 2.5'

    Cad programs make these conversions routinely.

    When using in a formula one would need to specify the format used for calculations regardless of the display format. This would make formulas for load calculations universal.

  20. Add 7 more border linestyles in the conditional formatting

    Currently only 7 border linestyles are possible in the conditional formatting cell properties, which is very reduced. A lot of the borderlines are missing in the conditional formatting cell properties. It should be in total 14 border linestyles, see the cell properties with the normal text.
