  1. Text to columns more than one "other" delimiter

When using the Text to Columns feature, I would like the ability to add more than one "Other" delimiter. For example, if I have data formatted like this: [1.1, 3.4, 5.5], I would like to be able to specify the delimiters as '[', ']', ',' so that it would convert to three columns: 1.1 3.4 5.5. The current implementation only allows for one "Other" delimiter.

  2. Cell locking

In Excel it would be incredibly more convenient and helpful if we had the ability to lock individual cells, instead of being stuck locking nothing or the whole page. It makes it difficult to have vital information on a document that needs to be sent out, but that can be deleted or edited by others.

  3. PLEASE allow users to save a custom format in the Format Cells dialogue

I constantly need to use the format 'yyyy-mm-dd' and I have to type it in over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

Please, please, please, please, for the love of all that is good in this world, make a way to save custom formatting so it can be reused.

  4. Allow grouping of tabs in Excel

Have an option in Excel to allow for grouping of tabs into sub-groups, and have them stack behind the main tab. clicking on the main would allow you to expand or collapse it's sub tabs. You could also promote a sub tab to main.

  6. Timespan format like "[d] hh:mm:ss"

A numeric value can be formatted as date/time, e.g. "[h]:mm:ss" where "[h]" means any number of hours, not modulo 24.

Also, "d hh:mm:ss" shows days and then a full (24-hour) time-of-day, but days is displayed modulo months, starting with January.

I would like a format like "[d] hh:mm:ss", which would display any number of days. I.e. 35 days should be displayed as "35 00:00:00" rather than "4 00:00:00" (which is the case for format "d hh:mm:ss").

  7. Make "Conditional Formatting Rules Manager" box resizable

As a programmer myself, I know that this is such a simple idea that could be fixed in seconds with no impact on anything else. There's many many suggestions already mentioning it in with other things going back years, but nothing has ever been done about it... maybe the developers don't even bother reading these suggestions any more?

  8. Gridlines make them visible in a block of filled color cells

Gridlines, when you fill color a block of cells the gridlines are no longer visible to see each cell when working in the sheet. Would be nice to turn this on and off.

  9. Pick color in Excel Like at Powerpoint

    Color Picker in Excel

At Powerpoint exists a tool to pick colors and bring to the pallete.

Many times we need to do it using Powerpoint and getting the RGB to use in Excel.

Can You create into Excel a pick color like exists in PowerPoint?

    Portuguese:
    Conta-gotas PowerPoint

  11. Make Custom Cell Formats Easier

Make it easier to create custom formats by eliminating the need for users to memorize all the different cryptic formatting characters.
Perhaps a Help button, or a drop down selector for all the different format characters would be useful here.
Meanwhile, here are two resources to help with custom formats

  13. DO NOT automatically remove leading zero's - give option to never do that

DO NOT automatically remove leading zero's - give option to never do that. You frequently do not have the option to format the columns ahead of time. If leading zero's are in the data there is a reason. Treat those columns automatically as text. If someone wants it to be a number, they can format it as a number.

  14. Date-Time Format

Would like a simple method to format cells to display both Date & Time.
Currently a date format and time format, but no date-time format, such as yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.
I waste so much time with custom formats since I more often that not am interested in date and time.

  16. Conditional formatting

Please just ‘stretch’ or ‘compress’ the ‘Applies to’ range in conditional formatting every time one adds or deletes a line of data.

While I note this already applies (finally) to preset rules, it doesn’t apply to conditions you made based on a formula.

  17. Show recently used fonts in the Fonts Dropdown

Applying a font from the dropdown list of fonts would be much easier if the most recently used fonts are shown at the top.

  18. Feature to specify a non-printing cell background color to highlight data-entry fields for users.

Can we get a feature to a.) designate any specific color to be non-printing to use that color to highlight fields in our sheets to show users where to enter data (similar to Adobe Acrobat) and, b.) another (separate) specified non-printing color to show users which cells not to select or enter data?

Yes, we can currently set the background of those cells with colors, then print in black and white. However, we often need to print the color background of some cells/rows but while not printing the background color of user input cells, or other specific cells.

  19. Invert If Negative for Waterfall chart

Currently situation: In Excel "Invert if Negative" option only work for legacy chart type. Waterfall is one of the chart types for Office16 and does not support that option.

Suggestion: It will be very using if "invert if negative" option extend the support for Waterfall chart as well.
