  1. Get Tables working on protected sheets (add rows, sort, filter, etc.)

    I would like to be able to, under the right circumstances, have the ability to add/remove rows of a table which resides on a protected sheet.

    Currently if you protect a sheet you can't insert/delete rows of a table. Even if you unprotect all cells and allow inserting/deleting of rows on sheet protection, it doesn't matter and is completely ignored.

    What I am proposing would have to follow specific rules:

    * Table cells would have to be unprotected
    * Cells below table would have to be unprotected (truly optional † )
    * Insert Rows would have to be specified in…

    • Use F4 key to lock reference in a table

      When you create formula with the named range of a table, you can't easily block the reference of your column.

      For instance, if you used the fill-handle to copy to the right, the reference of your column will change :( The only way to avoid that is to write [[column1]:[column1]] for all your reference (very annoying)

      So my suggestion to block the reference of a named range is to use the F4 key.
      Your formula is =SUM(table1[column1]) and after pressing F4 it becomes =SUM(table1[[column1]:[column1]])

        Good suggestion Frederic – thanks for taking the time to post it. We’ll take a look at the F4 loop and including other functionality like this as soon as we can. We’ll be spending more time on the things with more votes – so folks that really want to see this should keep voting it up.

        For rows or columns that contain merged cells, all rows or columns associated with the merged cells should be treated and sorted as 1 row or column.

        • Filter columns by more than one color

          I would like to filter columns by color, one color is ok and works fine, but choose two or more colours in the same filter

          • Pin the (Select All) check box in a filter list

            The (Select All) check box appears first in a filter list but disappears when you scroll down the list. I would prefer to see this box pinned at the top of the list so it can be checked and unchecked easily however far down the list you scroll. I often scroll down a long list then realise I wanted to deselect all and just choose one option so I have to scroll all the way back up to unchecked the box.

            • Marking values presented more that once in filter window

              While working with purchase specifications, the same positions in differens rows often appear with different quantities in each row which should be summed up for sending a request. It would be very convenient to have values corresponding with more then one rows marked by font, color, etc. in filter window…

              • 2 Ideas for Filtering

                1) Please add a functionality to "invert selection". Often you want to filter a couple of lines and after that check the remainder. It would be nice to have a one-click-solution for that.
                2) Please add functionality to "filter from cliboard". If you want to filter by various attributes you should be able to copy them from your list and add the copied lines to the filter.

                • Data validation - allow Table references as List Source.

                  If I'm using Data Validation in List mode, and I use a Table reference (e.g. "=Table1[Column1]") as the source, for some reason it doesn't work!

                  The workaround is to create a separate named range for that Table reference (e.g. make a named range called "Table1Column1" that Refers to "=Table1[Column1]", but it's a real pain to have to do this every time, and it is something that I use a lot!

                  • Enable user filter views

                    This feature should allow you to create, name, and save custom views of data that can be selected without affecting how other users see it.
                    As a next step it would be handy to share specific filter views with other users and choose which specific filter view should be applied by default.

                    • Filtering - Why does it snap back to A1?

                      When turning on filtering in a worksheet, you are automatically snapped back to A1. Typically, I turn on filtering near the column I want to filter. It's more time consuming to be at the column I want to filter and then be snapped back to the beginning, only to be left looking for that column again. Can we have the ability to turn on filtering without the snap back to A1? Thanks!

                      • Change Excel Table Name in the Create Table Window

                        Every time I Insert an Excel Table I then have to go change the Table Name (Alt+J,T,A). It would be great if the Table Name could be changed on the Create Table window when you are selecting the range of the Table.

                        It would also be nice to have some default settings for the table names. For example, I prefix all my table names with "tbl". This makes it a lot easier to get a list of the tables in the workbook when writing formulas. I would like to store this preference somewhere and then have the table name be…

                        • Move (Blanks) to the top of the Filter

                          Hello,

                          Currently, the (Blanks) checkbox is at the very bottom of the Filter dropdown. Please move (Blanks) to the top. I uncheck (Blanks) all of the time, so it would be quite convenient. Thank you for your consideration.

                          • Advanced Filter to copy to another worksheet/tab

                            When performing an Advanced Filter and Copying to Another Location, you cannot extract the data to another worksheet. You have to perform the operation on the same sheet as the data. It would be nice to export the advance filtered data to another worksheet or even workbook! Many a time, I have to send that extraction to someone else as an email attachment.

                            • primary key for rows in a table

                              I'd love to have an option in a table to add an ID (record counter) field. No formulas or vba just a system generated unique number for each new row in a table. Automatic timestamp would be great too! vba could do this but making it a built-in feature would be helpful for those who want to keep it simple.

                              • Enable mouse scroll after opening Filter drop down menu

                                Session: Enable filter on a large amount of data. Select drop down menu (presumes that the entries in the drop down menu require scrolling to view). Mouse wheel scroll. Nothing happens (FAIL).

                                Expectation: After opening filter drop down menu, the application should be aware of mouse location and enable scrolling immediately.

                                Note: User can click inside the menu (carefully as to not select something, or select then deselect), and then mouse wheel scroll functions. It should be smarter.

                                  I believe that table column headings should be dynamic (i.e. value determined by a formula), and if that's not possible, then we should at least be able to specify an arbitrary number of dynamic "subheadings". There are times that you have non-heading information that you want to put at the top of a table without having it as part of the heading. Examples include small notes or units.

                                    This function would allow a user to highlight a column and sort it randomly. Meaning the values in a column would appear in a random order after this sort is applied.

                                        Dynamic searching in the Filter mode like in Google

                                        Nowadays every second is very important working with Excel. I have watched one video in youtube where one guy invented how to make dynamic searching and select the item by writing text in it like google search. He show this invention with Developer tools. But I believe that this tool can built-in in the filter mode. Currently filter works when i write the full word in the box and press enter. The new one option could provide more interactive approach to filter items.

                                        • Show count of items represented by each checkbox in the Filter dropdown menu

                                          When we filter we can see all the items that are present in the selected column. What would be helpful is to have next to each item the count of times it's present in that column. E.g. it column "Animal name" contains 1x"dog", 1x"cat", 5x"horse"..., if I filter, I'll be able to see the names of these animals only, what I'd like to have also is the number of times (count) they're present in the column.
