  1. Pull Current Stock Prices and Historical Data Into Excel

    Now that our ability to use Yahoo! Finance's API to pull in stock information via the WEBSERVICE() function and import historical information is officially dead (thanks Verizon!), the only viable option currently is to use Google sheets to pull in stock information.

    It would be awesome if Excel could import data from MSN Money so us users can continue to use spreadsheets to monitor our portfolios.

    • Add Center Across Selection to the Merge & Center Drop-down

      Do you hate Merged Cells? Do you believe Merged Cells are evil? Do you curse every time your selection rectangle goes from one column to five columns just because you touched a merged cell? Do you constantly get workbooks from co-workers who continue to merge cells? Tired of not being able to Sort or Paste because someone merged a cell?

      Excel encourages people to use Merge & Center by offering it front-and-center on the Home tab. Thus, few people discover the (superior) Center Across Selection option on the Alignment tab of the Format Cells dialog.

      • Unhide multiple worksheets at once

        We can hide several worksheets at once, but we can only show them individually.

        Although the VBA can solve this issue with some lines of code, but it would be a great improvement if you add this capability to Excel as a build in feature.

        • Update Linked Pictures (formerly called the Camera tool)

          Linked pictures give us the ability to switch figures between charts and tables instantly. They allow formulas to determine which icon to display. They allow us to set up visual alerts. And a lot more.

          But linked pictures have a low resolution, which causes small text to be jaggy. They don't have a manual calculation mode. They can mess up data validation. And they can become distorted.

          Please fix these issues.

          • I want to deselect the cell which I copied from after pasting. At the moment, to deselect the cell I copied from, I have to hit Esc button.

            I copied data from a cell.
            I click Ctrl V to paste the data onto another cell.
            But right now, I have to hit Esc button to deselect/remove the dotted lines/take away the focus from the originally copied cell. Does this sound right to you??? N O ! ! ! There is a problem.

            • Reinstate the ability to open multiple workbooks in a single instance in Excel

              I do not understanding the logic behind your decision to remove the ability to open multiple workbooks in a single instance in Excel. The only benefit is the ability to immediately move work books to two separate screens basically giving the ability to do the simple task of copy and paste. FYI: available on all spreadsheets!!! What made Excel a valuable tool was it ability to reduce time by accumulating data from multiple workbooks instantly and limiting the use of resources (ram).               • Power Query search box or an "In Focus" tab

                If you have many queries of different types (functions, parameters, load queries…), I know you can "put" them in different groups, but that still doesn't give you a good overview of them and turns out to not be so practical when you hit about 20 queries.                 • Filtering Needs to Work in Co-Authoring

                  Say that several people are editing the same workbook. If Tom filters to show only his records, then the other people will only see Tom's records. We need to be able to have each person apply a different filter and see only their records.
                  Note that it is fine to require that the workbook can not have SUBTOTAL or AGGREGATE functions in order for independent filtering to work. If you allow these functions, then everyone will have different calculation results which would be problematic.

                    It would also be amazing if it could be used as an alternative to field functions such as "=PRODUCT(A1:A10))"

                    I believe that Microsoft Excel naively supporting PowerShell as a 21st century alternative to VBA would be the most beneficial change made to the software since release.

                    Almost all Microsoft products are becoming PowerShell integrated, yet Office remains only supporting VBA.
                    VBA is an archaic procedural language which despite its ambivalent love from the community, seems to have little to no place in the modern world.

                    • Change Significance F Label in Regression Output

                      My MBA cohort is having a difficult time remembering that Significance F is really the model-level p-value. We understand that the p-value labels below refer to the individual variables, but Significance F is obscure.

                      I suggest that you change the label Significance F in the ANOVA section of the output to Model p-value to resolve this confusion.

                        i wants to add an option to filter drop down list which gives output as in inverse select in filter

                        • Slicers - Remove the selected criteria when a slicer is deleted

                          Hi,
                          Slicers are great tools to filter Table and PivotTable.
                          But, when you apply a filter with a slicer and after you remove this slicer from your worksheet, the filter is still active. And it's a nightmare to find the slicer who get the filter.

                          So, my suggestion, is to remove all the selections of a slicer when it is deleted.

                          • AutoSave Master Switch rather than an "I Told YOu So!" later

                            Microsoft has added a new feature to help users co-author files. Whether you are for or against this feature is not my point here: it needs Excel's AutoSave switched on to work. That's fine. But it shouldn't be the default. It is accepted that Office is trying to make various apps consistent, but Excel is used differently. What makes it the most popular software in the world is the ability to experiment without consequences.

                            • Excel 2016 : ClearContents is 3 times slower than Excel2010

                              My customers reported me that my product (Excel Addin) becomes slower after they updated Excel from 2010 to 2016.
                              By analyzing the problem it turned out that main reason of the slow performance is 'ClearContents'.
                              I setup two same hardware condition machine. I installed Win10 into them. Then I installed Excel 2010 on the machine A.
                              And I installed Excel 2016 on the machine B.
                              By using the following code, I measured the time to ClearContens.

                              It takes 2859 ms on Excel2010 (A) . It takes 9719 ms on Excel2016 (B).

                              Generally thinking , a customer will expect faser performance…

                              • Ability to reference the end of the column or row regardless of the starting position

                                I can enter A:A to reference the entire column or 1:1 for the whole row, but if I want to go from A2:A, I have to enter a number for the end of the range.

                                What if I don't know where it ends? Or where it may end someday? If I type A2:A10000 I'm safe only as long as my data doesn't exceed 9,999 rows, which is hard to determine. I want to reference the whole rest of the column regardless of how much it expands in the future.

                                And because of this, sometimes a reference like A:A in conditional…

                                • Options for AutoSave

                                  The AutoSave function is a great idea!!
                                  Just not in practice...
                                  In my business we re-use the same invoices made in excel for the same jobs, however save them as a new file each time in order to keep a record of the previous invoice.
                                  The new AutoSave feature is extremely dangerous in this regard.
                                  If I, or someone else, does not remember to turn off AutoSave, or save as a new file BEFORE making new changes, we LOSE our previous invoice.

                                  Have options for AutoSave, the most important one being, DEFAULT OFF rather than default on.

                                    • Set a range as "Absolute" values

                                      I use a same range to enter minus(-) values and also plus(+) values to differentiate between negative and positive.
                                      However i need to SUM this range as a whole (i.e. a credit/debit column) = this is difficult to do as sum function will +/- the values
                                      If i can set that column or range as an "Absolute" range, then SUM and other functions can honour the abs() value if need be

                                      • "Power BI Service" as a data source in "Get & Transform"

                                        It would be awesome if "Power BI Service" is added as a data source under "Get Data" in "Get & Transform Data" in Excel. Though the source availability is already there with "Power BI Publisher Add-in" but it is buggy and hard to deploy on large number of laptops/desktops. Also, it is practically very difficult to educate down the line users about re-enabling this add-in via COM Add-ins in case it disappears from the ribbon which is very frequent in case of this add-in. We have been struggling with this for a long period of time now.

                                        • Allow to disable the auto-compile for every DAX change in Power Pivot

                                          The DAX compiler takes more than a minute to re-compile the model each time I modify the DAX code, or if I change the datatype of a measure.

                                          This is with "Manual Calculation Mode" set, which if not set would take even more time.

                                          Sometimes, I need to change many measures in a batch way and it is very painful to have to wait a good 1 minute between each changes.

                                          A way to pause the compiler and modify many measure would be such help.

                                          Currently, I have about 1000 measures. Assuming I would like to beautify them (code indentation)…
