  1. Number format thousand separator and no decimals

Every time (many days a year) I train people in Excel, someone ask why there is no button or shortcut to obtain a number format with "thousand separator and no decimals". At least - in northern Europe - this is the most common used number format. If "button-solution" not possible for Microsoft in order to have common buttons world-wide, at least a shortcut for this has been much appreciated. (Note that the current button for thousand separator and two decimals could not be used, though the alignment in that format are not disired/good and two decimals used).

    • Pull Current Stock Prices and Historical Data Into Excel

Now that our ability to use Yahoo! Finance's API to pull in stock information via the WEBSERVICE() function and import historical information is officially dead (thanks Verizon!), the only viable option currently is to use Google sheets to pull in stock information.

It would be awesome if Excel could import data from MSN Money so us users can continue to use spreadsheets to monitor our portfolios.

Progress! As of this morning, we’ve begun enabling the first iteration of Excel’s new data types for a percentage of Office Insiders, including the ability to pull and refresh live stock quotes (and other financial data) straight in to Excel! We’ll be increasing the percentage of Insiders with access to the feature over the coming days and weeks, so if you don’t see it right away please hang in there!*

We acknowledge that right now this is only half of the suggestion (pull current stock prices), but historical data is in our sights and we’re planning to add this and many other improvements to stock and financial data. Your feedback thus far has been immensely valuable in helping us plan and design this work, and we look forward to your continued suggestions for how we can improve to better meet your needs

Again, we genuinely appreciate your involvement as we…

        1)atan(x,y)=pi-pi/2*(1+sgn(x))*(1-sgn(y^2))-pi/4*(2+sgn(x))*sgn(y)

        -sign(x*y)*atan((abs(x)-abs(y))/(abs(x)+abs(y))) when x=x2-x1 ,y=y2-y1

        2)atan(E,N)=pi-pi/2*(1+sgn(N))*(1-sgn(E^2))-pi/4*(2+sgn(N))*sgn(E)

        -sgn(N*E)*atan((abs(N)-abs(E))/(abs(N)+abs(E))) when N=N2-N1 ,E=E2-E1

        3)atan2(x,y)=pi/2*(1-sgn(x))*(1-sgn(y^2))+pi/4*(2-sgn(x))*sgn(y)

        -sgn(x*y)*atan((abs(x)-abs(y))/(abs(x)+abs(y))) when x=x2-x1 ,y=y2-y1

The above fuctions give the directions in the 4 quadrans for all the pairs of dx and dy.

For dx=dy=0 the result is indefinite .

        • Tables should default to "My table has headers" being ticked

It's taken me 10 years to realise this but I've never "unchecked" My Table has headers, it's ALWAYS the other way round, forgetting to remember to tick it because Excel hasn't recognised the header row.

Let's default the tick to always on ?

          • Bug: wrong data from OLAP source

Incorrect values of dimension in pivot table sourced on OLAP cube (Microsoft SSAS 11.0.5569.0). The latest version without that bug is 16.0.6001.1068. Obviously we don’t know exact source of this bug, but most of the issues we discovered were on complex pivot tables with many attributes, partially displayed dimension’s hierarchy and without subtotals. Example of this bug occurring is in attached file ExcelBug. There are 2 exactly the same pivot tables (the table on the right hand side is basically copy of the table on the left hand side). After removing “Grand Total” on the table on the right hand…

            • Add Get Parameter button to Power Query and avoid Privacy / Formula.Firewall problems

It's fantastic that you can pick up named ranges in Excel and pass them to Power Query as parameters. However the process is cumbersome and often results in Formula.Firewall warnings or other issues.

This leads to having to switch Privacy Levels to "Ignore" or having to write a query within a query rather than nice and clean "parameter" queries.

It would really simplify things if we could quickly create parameter queries (including a drop down to select parameter type) and that these queries would be immune from the Privacy warnings.

              • Single Page Zoom

When in Page Layout mode, have the option to zoom out on one page. Word has a "One Page" option in the zoom settings. Excel is default to "Multiple Pages" when zooming out and scrolling. Would be nice to see how the document will appear printed out.

See attached for what is available in Word.

                • Enable Excel to send a Task to Outlook

Some users use Excel for tracking of various tasks or operational reviews. At the end, follow-up minutes and tasks will have to be created. It would be great to have a function like in OneNote to create a Task in Outlook. Information about Due Date and Assignee should be embeddable into the cell with a little popup window.
When in Outlook, you should be able to click the task and go back to the Excel document (and specific cell) stored on the SharePoint.

                  • Show Tables in Power Query when opening an xlsb file

When using Power Query / Get Data to open .xlsx files and .xlsm files, the Tables present in those files are shown in a list.
When opening a .xlsb file only Sheets are shown and not any of the Tables present within the file.

If there is only one table on a sheet, AND it starts in cell A1, then it is relatively easy to still load the data, but where there are multiple tables per sheet, OR the tables don't start in A1, then there is a lot of unnecessary work deleting Rows and or Columns to obtain your…

                    • Filtering Needs to Work in Co-Authoring

Say that several people are editing the same workbook. If Tom filters to show only his records, then the other people will only see Tom's records. We need to be able to have each person apply a different filter and see only their records.
Note that it is fine to require that the workbook can not have SUBTOTAL or AGGREGATE functions in order for independent filtering to work. If you allow these functions, then everyone will have different calculation results which would be problematic.
It is more important to us to be able to have each person apply a local…

Hello Everyone. We agree with you! The experience you’ve captured here is at the top of our list to address with a future coauthoring feature. I can’t share a timeline for when this will be delivered but wanted to let you know that we do recognize the impact not having this ability has on your coauthoring experience. Stay tuned for more.

It would be helpful to include the dividend amount per share and ex-dividend date with the stock data type.

                          • Allow column name to be used in vlookup

Allow the VLOOKUP formula to recognise a column label in place of the column count. This is a sorely lacking functionality when referencing large data sets that can easily extend to column counts of 50 or more.

                            Example: =VLOOKUP(A2,F:AM,AM,false) instead of =VLOOKUP(A2,F:AM,34,false)

                              • Perform Calculations (Sum, Count, If, etc.) Based on Cell Color

Allow users to create formulas and that perform specified operations with data/values from only cells with a chosen background color, from a range of cells.

For example, in a range of 10 cells (A1:A10), only 3 cells have been colored yellow (either by the user or by a specified condition). A user can create a formula, such as =SUM or =COUNT or =AVERAGE, that will only use the cells colored yellow to determine the result. All other cells in the range, regardless of background color, will be excluded from the formula's result.

Alternatively, the same functionality can be achieved based…

                                • Excel Misinterpreting CSV as SYLK file.

When opening a CSV file in Excel where the first field is "ID", Excel gives a dialog saying the extension does not match the file type (Excel assuming the file type to be SYLK). I have had to make a change to my codebase to change "ID" to "_ID" specifically for users who utilize Excel. I would appreciate a fix ASAP.

                                  • Copy multiple selections into Clipboard

I've always wanted the option to copy multiple selections to the clipboard. When you paste, you'd be presented with the option of everything on your clipboard, to be able to pick which selection(s) you want to paste.

                                    • Increase the file path length to more than 218 characters

Incresaing the character count in the file path matching with Excel online would be fitting. Or even more. It seems crazy that Excel can't open a valid file that the filesystem allows. People have been complaining about this since Office 2000. The thread below has over 11 thousand views and there are plenty others. Please fix this.

                                      • Restore MDI

Please bring Excel back to how it was prior to the 2016 version. Open only one instance of Excel for all spreadsheets. Have one Ribbon for all of them. Open all windows the same size of all others. Make split view work again. Enough of the 1,000 clicks we have to do more each day because of this SDI very bad idea.

                                        • Power Query - cache shared nodes

Update Power Query in Excel to take advantage of caching in cases where a parent node refers to a child node that has already been refreshed (as exists in Power BI desktop today).

This issue creates significant performance problems with refresh times when creating highly interdependent financial and operational models. This is a show stopper from a usability and customer acceptance standpoint.

                                            Hi all,

I wanted to share with you that the new query caching mechanism in Excel has been deployed to Office Insiders starting from Excel version 1801 (build 9001.*). At this stage, we would like to allow some “baking” time as we monitor the feature health metrics.

In this scope, we need your help to ensure a quality release! I encourage you to try the following scenarios and share your feedback:
                                            1. Run Refresh All on a complex workbook with multiple query dependencies. Does it work faster?

                                            2. Run Refresh All on a complex workbook with multiple query dependencies. Do you see any issues with your data?

                                            3. Refresh a single query several times. Do you see any issues with your data?
