  2. Stop formatting all numbers as dates, as users have been requesting since the 1990s

    Automatic date formatting is not useful except for data entry, and it makes use of Excel for anything but the simplest processes a royal pain. Users have been requesting a way to switch this off for DECADES, but all they get in response is some unpaid "MVP" telling them how to use apostrophes.

  5. Date-Time Format

    Would like a simple method to format cells to display both Date & Time.
    Currently a date format and time format, but no date-time format, such as yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.
    I waste so much time with custom formats since I more often that not am interested in date and time.

  6. Allow Data Validation List function to use the new "UNIQUE" formula

    The new "UNIQUE" feature is fantastic and it would be fantastic if you could use this function to create a dynamic list in a data validation list using indirect, rather than creating a separate dynamic list using the unique function and then creating a dynamic named range for this and then using the indirect function in a data validation list.

  7. Introduce a feature which enables recovery of deleted content even after saving, so that deleted content can be recovered

    it will help recovering deleted content as sometimes we delete some content temporarily but we don't get it back, so to resolve it you must introduce this feature

  8. Excel is wrong in calculating -x^2

    If you type in for example =-6^2, Excel gives you 36. This is incorrect. Excel is assuming you mean =(-6)^2. But -6^2 is different.

    You can see this when you factorise. -6^2 = (-6)*(+6) = -36.

    Whereas (-6)^2 = (-6)*(-6)=36.

    Now if you type in = 0-6^2, only then does it give you the correct answer of -36.

    This error goes against millennia of algebraic convention.

    Plot the graph y=-x^2-7x-12 and then plot y=-7x-x^2-12. These two expressions are identical, yet Excel gives very different traces (the latter of the two gives the correct graph).

  9. Ordinal Position Function

    A function which returns ordinal position of one specific element in an array as a number. Alternative name occurrence.

    So for example if the array was like this
    A1 Dave
    A2 Fred
    A3 Jim
    A4 Dave

    Then Ordinal(A1:A4,A1) would return 1 eg the 1st Occurence of Dave
    Ordinal(A1:A4,A2) would return 1 eg the 1st Occurrence of Fred
    Ordinal(A1:A4,A3) would return 1 eg the 1st Occurence of Jim
    Ordinal(A1:A4,A4) would return 2 eg the 2nd Occurrence of Dave

    Function Format something like
    Ordinal(lookup array, lookup cell, optional reverse)
    Lookup array could be vertical with a width of 1 column or horizontal…

  10. Add Center Across Selection to the Merge & Center Drop-down

    Do you hate Merged Cells? Do you believe Merged Cells are evil? Do you curse every time your selection rectangle goes from one column to five columns just because you touched a merged cell? Do you constantly get workbooks from co-workers who continue to merge cells? Tired of not being able to Sort or Paste because someone merged a cell?

    Excel encourages people to use Merge & Center by offering it front-and-center on the Home tab. Thus, few people discover the (superior) Center Across Selection option on the Alignment tab of the Format Cells dialog.

  11. Make the Evaluate Formula dialog box re-sizable

  12. Allow wildcards to be used with IF statements

    I think the IF function should allow wildcards to be used. Take a look at the attached file. I'd rather write the below function than what I have show in the attached filed:

    =IF(N2=2010??, "2010", IF(N2=2011??, "2011",...etc.)

  13. Add append and prepend options to find the find and replace dialogue box.

    Right now the only way of appending or prepending something to cell contents is to use a concat function which can be a hassle depending on the contents.

    Alternatively adding full regex functionality to the search/find and replace function would be even better!

  14. Gridlines make them visible in a block of filled color cells

    Gridlines, when you fill color a block of cells the gridlines are no longer visible to see each cell when working in the sheet. Would be nice to turn this on and off.

  15. Perform Calculations (Sum, Count, If, etc.) Based on Cell Color

    Allow users to create formulas and that perform specified operations with data/values from only cells with a chosen background color, from a range of cells.

    For example, in a range of 10 cells (A1:A10), only 3 cells have been colored yellow (either by the user or by a specified condition). A user can create a formula, such as =SUM or =COUNT or =AVERAGE, that will only use the cells colored yellow to determine the result. All other cells in the range, regardless of background color, will be excluded from the formula's result.

  16. Offer an option to allow for different locale formatting in a single workbook

    My Windows regional settings are FR-CA, so Excel, very smartly, formats numbers and dates accordingly. But, at times, I have to prepare and print reports with numbers and dates formatted according to US settings.
    That gets done on a cell by cell basis, by choosing the format I need among the many choices offered by Excel. And it works, but it's very tedious.
    I wish it were possible to associate specific regional settings with a sheet within a workbook, so that numbers copied from one sheet to another got formatted (and dated) according to the (different) settings set for that…

  17. Add cell reference to Data Validation Messages (Input Message, Error Alert)

    Please add the ability to use cell references or formulas in the Data Validation Messages (Input Message, Error Alert).
    This would make possible to use variable contents.

  18. Insert data from picture should be implemented on desktop, and it should read PDF's

    Surely you must be aware that this is easily in the top five annoying requests that competent excel users receive from.. other excel users. Why would you not implement this feature to read tables from PDF's in excel proper?!

  19. Vertical, Hierarchical Worksheet Tab Column at the right instead of Worksheet tabs at the bottom

    Instead of having worksheet tabs at the bottom of the viewing window, put the worksheet tabs in a column to the far right. This way you can see more tabs on the screen at a time and use longer more descriptive worksheet titles. This would make worksheets much easier to navigate and organize. Furthermore it would be great to make the tabs able to be hierarchical as in the attached example where Schedule 4 has a drop-down arrow that that reveals tabs for sub-schedules a, b and c.   20. Power Query Active Directory Feature

    Hi All,

    I tried to use Active directory feature of Power Query but still not able to find any solution in any forum to speed up the downloading data.

    I have more than ~300,000 records to import (i.e. Distribution list contains each member list) from Active directory but it takes 12-~14 hrs to import using Power Query.

    Can we look into this feature why there is so much time taken by Power Query and How we optimize the same ?
