Excel Online - Tell us what forces desktop Excel so we can write xlsx files that work in Online - or make online=desktop functionality
Tell us the gotchas that force Excel Online to desktop so we can write spreadsheets that don't force desktop. Going back and forth between 2 different versions of the "same" product is so kludgy.

Open Excel application automatically
It would be great if there was an option to open the Excel application automatically instead of having to manually click "Open in Excel".

Always open locally option
1) Because Excel Online is slow and doesn't have all features, such as VBA, there should always be a button to open in Excel locally (I couldn't find it in a file in a Yammer post)
2) In Share-point (or in all of Windows) it should be possible to select an option to always open xlsx-files in Excel locally .... as the Online-version does not fulfill the full spec of Excel that we use.

Allow Excel files larger than 5mb
Please allow online Excel to open larger files, e.g., up to 20mb. This would greatly enhance your products usefulness.

Log in to Excel NOT required if opening from excel online
When you open Excel Online you have limited functionalities, g.e. copy and pasting with format or as a picture, so you need to open it in Excel THAT requires you to Log In to Excel in the computer AGAIN which is very easy to forget to sign out, specially when you work on the rush.
And very problematic when you are using it from a Public or Shared Computer, which at the end it the real problem, since sharing and collaborating CAN be DONE with a normal Excel with ALL the functionalities, the benefit of Excel Online is to access…

Stop Excel online opening as default. It is tiresome. I want full functionality to edit my spreadsheet.
How about not opening spreadsheets from Sharepoint in online by default. I want full functionality, so I have either to remember to right click and select proper Excel, or wait for it to open in online, then click on the relevant button and wait again for it to open in proper Excel. This is tedious.

Change confusing error message (corrupt file or file format not supported)
Issue:
One of the operational Excel workbooks cannot be opened in Excel Online, on the opening attempt the following error message is received:
“
We’re sorry, we couldn’t open you’re your workbook. It’s possibly corrupt or using a file format that’s not supported.
Do you want to try and open this file in Excel. However when the file is opened and inspected in the Excel reach client no corruption is detected.
The file contains External Links that are not supported (i.e. cannot be resolved) in Excel Online. After removing the "unresolvable" links, the file can perfectly be opened in Excel…1 vote -
When I open a file from sharepoint in Excel online, it shows that I updated the file even when I didn't make any changes.
When I open a file from sharepoint in Excel online, it shows that I updated the file even when I didn't make any changes. Perhaps you should give a "view only" option.

Last saved time/date stamp for online apps
On the online apps (Word, Excel, etc) it would be nkce to have a visible last saved time/date stamp. I know it happens as you make changes, but this would eleviate the has it saved or not feeling I always get before closing the window.

Can't open online and while can't be sorted in desktop version why are you making this hard for us?
Why can't we open this online? I tried desktop but I can't even sort which is needed for lots of records like this file, why are you making this hard for us? You should've given us a booklet for this in the first place which we can bring wherever we go.

Custom Excel templates for Group or global use in Excel Online/SharePoint
Would like to enhance Excel templates in the ONLINE version - such that files can be saved-as templates, xltx files can be opened in the online version and then saved by users as a new file (like the desktop version) also be able to display Group shared templates so that everyone in the group or organization has direct access to company designed templates

Sharepoint File Ownership
As the owner of the file that is protected there are times I need to edit the document however folks have it opened in sharepoint and walk away. I'd like the ability as the owner to kick them out so that edits can be made. When they return they can re-open the updated document.
