Provide an option to disable Excel Online and default to desktop version
Excel Online continues to disappoint new users and is hampering adoption of both SharePoint and Teams. Even if the library and site collection are set to "Open in client application", every Excel file that isn’t opened directly form the library in SharePoint or files tab in Teams, opens in the garbage online version, then has to be change to desktop, then user has to close the useless window of the online version.
There is no option to open in the desktop version for a file attached to a planner task embedded in Teams, so then it is either jump through the hoops described above, or go search the files tab and hope you find the correct file/version. Thereby defeating the purpose of attaching the relevant file to the task in the first place. The same is true for any file that is linked using the “File Viewer” web part in SharePoint, you have to go through the online version to get to the desktop version.
Give us a setting to turn the online version off and default to the desktop version always.
To sum up my view of this, the Excel Online version is not a value add, so it is waste by any standard of process analysis and should be eliminated.
This is beyond ridiculous that this “Online version” even exists with such limited functionality.
totally agree - I hate the online version!!
