Online scripting language
Include a scripting language on the online version in the same way that Google sheets does. The ability to automate excel on the desktop version via VBA is where the real power of excel is, the online version is therefore significantly handicapped by the lack of any scripting language. Power users need the ability to automate spreadsheet tasks.

I think this is the direction Office Dev is going: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dev/add-ins/
This is a must feature, especially to manage automated links between Forms and spreadsheets. I keep using Google for this, because of the lack of this feature on Excel online..

Google has provided Apps Script for their cloud applications from the beginning. Microsoft needs to do this to be competitive.
The online version of Excel needs to support the same events generated on the desktop version of Excel. This is important for using the same Office Apps on both the desktop and on the web version of Excel.
How about just add a developer table and add a pop up window to wrote basic VBA codes but anything real complex make users do it on the desktop version until those tools can be developed.
Is the idea that a scripting language would preform on the Web version of Excel what VBA does for the desktop Excel?
I believe all of the Events found in the Excel and Word desktop applications should be implemented on the Web version of Office applications like Word and Excel. This would allow common development practices across the Web and Client versions of Office
Online versions of the Office applications like Excel need to support Events like Open, Save, Saveas, Close, BeforeSave, BeforeCLose and the other events that exists in the Office client applications.
This would encourage and support development practices for both platforms resulting in better Office applications and sharing of technical knowledge across the platforms

Need events for the Web version of Excel
The following list of events found on the client version of Excel would aid in development of apps that work the same as current client addin apps work.
Excel Open Event
Excel Close Event
Excel beforeClose event
Excel Save Event
Excel SaveAs event
Excel BeforeSave Event
Workbook activate event
Other standard events found on the desktop version of Excel
This would be really good. It'd be especially good to see Python scripting enabled for online Excel (as well as desktop https://excel.uservoice.com/forums/304921-excel-for-windows-desktop-application/suggestions/10549005-python-as-an-excel-scripting-language)
