be able to add trendline on excel online

Hello,
Thank you for your continued suggestions and votes. We’re currently rolling out a format task pane for charts and are investigating incorporating this feature as we continue to support more formatting capabilities on Excel Web.
Thanks!

Yes it is a total joke. I do not know who is in charge of strategic vision and getting paid lots of money at microsoft, but they are going to be IBM soon. a fading behemoth. It is madness in the face of desmos, and sheets that a person cannot graph a simple line in excel.

The OP is two years old. There are dozens of comments here asking when this will be remedied.
Glad to see you're so *diligent about getting this problem fixed (especially during times of remote instruction).

For me, being forced by Microsoft (because of this ridiculous limitation) to use Google sheets has been pretty great. It made me realize that I don't hate Google Sheets as much as I thought I did and my students seem much more comfortable with google sheets than excel.

Absolutely. While =slope or =linest will work they are not acceptable substitutes for beginners or for making a simple graph. If Microsoft wants to compete with google in the future and continue to have office be a mainstay for many people and companies, they need to fix this years ago. (that is before ASAP :) )

Adding a trend line is a super basic requirement for excel. Why would you put out an online version that does not have this function. It had to be one of first functions developed in the first iteration of excel. The point of making a chart (standard curve) is so you can calculate an unknown value using the equation of a line. For this, you need a trend line. This has to be corrected.

I teach Physics and Engineering at a community college. My school made Microsoft 365 available to the students.
However, without the trendline feature, this program is useless in many academic applications, not to mention the inability to do scatterplots from nonadjacent cells.
I will be directing my students to Google Sheet.

I tried the excel to practise for my aat synoptics exam, unfortunately it was useless as I was unable to use trend lines and linear lines, so as far as excel is free for students a full working package is not and really what is offered is no good, I shall go on with open office they give you more for free. So excel should NOT offer free for students as they are unable to use it for their studies.

The fact that you cannot do this is actually unbelievable. There is no reason for this other than MONEY. You just want to make more money on more sales of excel, its embarrassing for such a huge company.

I also have college students who are unable to do online assignments because they are not able to add trendlines through the University's online Excel program.

Excel is pretty much worthless without the ability to do basic statistical analysis. This wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that I wasted a couple of hours trying to draw a trendline on Excel online.

This needs to be addressed quickly in light of many students having to use Excel for basic statistical analysis, in the context of a graph, during the COVID-19 shutdown of school campuses.

Excel online is entirely useless if it can't be used to analyze data. This is a simple and essential function.

I am teaching a computer class and my students, who are now eLearning, don't all have Office 365 on their computers, so they are using the online version. It would be nice to be able to teach them how to make trendlines!
