Umm, no it's not. At least, not when using Google Chrome. The browser's spellchecker doesn't work when I am working on an Excel workbook through OneDrive. I don't know if there are different online versions of Excel, but when I search in the search bar above the ribbon for a spellchecker, the browser-based version of Excel refers me to the desktop version.
It's very inconvenient.

Auto Spell scheck, and even better highlighting words would be better. -

F7 spell checks currently (I just found out!)
But auto spell but underline (and the ability to togggle on and off even better) -

iWork Numbers has spelling and Grammar check. Excel should have both too. Essential.
