Show userid of who has the document locked or checked out and time its been checked out
edit spreadsheet online is locked...it'd be nice to show userid of person that has the document checked out. This way you can send them a reminder to check it back in for online edits

Happy to share we have added the info who is locking the file.

This is the greatest undoing of this wonderful tool! Totally irritating when you want to move on with your work!

if you ask to check out the document, the other user is revealed :-D

Yup, I'm having the same issue. It seems quite an oversight.

I found my own little way around this...
Download the file (just in case) and then try to delete it.
It will not be deleted but it will tell you who is blocking it from deletion. -

From the Admin portal, if you go to https://protection.office.com/#/unifiedauditlog - you should be able to find the Audit log on the left someplace. You have to TURN ON AUDITING. Then, you can see who 'Checked out' a file, and when (going forward, after you turn it on). Why is auditing not turned on by default? I don't know. Also YOU NEED TO BE THE ADMIN to see this information. But at least it's something. Good luck, folks! Signed, a frustrated O365 IT guy.

Agree, should be a basic feature MS. So, when will this happen?

this is needed since it is a basic feature... should not be done based on voting

Hey MS, how long are you going to wait until you address this? Remember that you are not the only game in town...........

How are we supposed to work together? there should be at least an option to lock file to be edited in the browser only.

This is just unacceptable. I'm trying to work here. At least gdrive is reliable for work.

Come on microsoft, I am trying to embrace onedrive but stuff like this makes it unreliable.

I cant believe that this is not already a thing. This MUST be a priority, there is no functionality on a shared platform with this as an issue.

This is unacceptable. I can't go chasing down every person whom I had shared this document just to find someone who has carelessly left it open on their desktop.
PLEASE FIX THIS.
