Add Support for Shapes
For over two years now Excel Online has failed to support Shapes added in the Excel Desktop and this is major issue for many applications and document workflow.
The compromise put in place by Microsoft is dysfunctional because Shapes cannot be Viewed or Edited in Excel Online and it forces users to either:
Create a copy of the file to Edit Online (strips Shapes) > now we have two different Versions!
Open the Excel Document in Excel Desktop
I suggest at a minimum, that Shapes can be viewed and cell links to Shape text is updated if used.
Ultimately, the ability to edit Shapes in Excel Online is essential.
I am happy to announce that shapes can now be viewed!
Enabling shapes for editing and insert shapes is on our backlog.
Thank you all for voting and influencing Excel Online priorities.
Keep voting for other ideas you want the product team to address.
The feature is completely unuseful as February 2019, simply importing shapes from Excel desktop to Online version makes all the hyperlinks connected to shapes simply disappear!
This way a process diagram workflow with a process depicted and many documents linked to external sources is completely deleted and has to be completely redone from scratch !
huge and inacceptable limit. Moreover simple text inside the shapes seemed to be still not editable. There is still a lot of work to be done.

Unfortunately the "Help" file doesn't reflect that.
"If your workbook contains objects, such as comments, shapes or ink, you can view the data in the workbook, but these objects can’t be displayed in the browser. "

Awesome! Great work!
sweet! thank you!
Any update on an ETA for completion/roll out of Microsoft finally building the ability to view shapes in Excel Online?

I hope this also refers to inserting shapes into the online version of Excel and not just supporting showing shapes that had been entered on the Desktop Excel.
Being able to insert an image into a running instance of Web Excel would be extremely handy for users of tables!

Simple lines that were drawn on top of charts do not display in Excel Online
Great news! Any idea on ETA Tamar? This is compatibility we've been crying out for so long. Especially when forcing documents to open in client from SharePoint is a tricky change to make.

Tamar - Do you know the expected release date for Excel Online that will support shapes? Is there contact information for us to get additional information?

I would like to say in addition to the previous comments that this same problem also exists with regard to Embedded Objects something that is used to a large degree by our company and if nothing else Excel Online should NOT delete objects when the file is opened in Excel Online. It would be nice if they are recognized and supported but at least don't over write them.
I keep getting caught out when I share XLS and people viewing them on Excel on line say, "this doesn't make any sense" because there's items I've added in Excel which aren't seen in Excel OnLine.
