    Hello,

Thank you for your continued suggestions and votes. We’re currently rolling out a format task pane for charts and are investigating incorporating this feature as we continue to support more formatting capabilities on Excel Web.

    Thanks!

  2. PivotTables created with Power BI using Analyze In Excel should work after publishing to Power BI

Power BI's Analyze in Excel functionality allows Excel users on the desktop to create reports using PivotTables and cube formulas connected to a published Power BI dataset. However (and this is very hard to explain to customers) these reports only work on the desktop: even though Power BI allows you to publish Excel workbooks to an App Workspace, reports created using Analyze In Excel do not work after they have been published to Power BI because Excel Online does not support connections to Power BI. Please fix this!

We are working on enabling connectivity from Excel on the web to Power BI. When this work is completed, a PivotTable that is connected to a Power BI dataset will be fully interactive when displayed in Excel on the web. It won’t matter how the PivotTable was created, whether by Analyze in Excel or in some other way. We look forward to implementing and deploying this capability, but I am not yet able to commit to a delivery date.

  3. When files are locked by another user

It would be good to have a way to notify person who has locked the file out that is shared to close it by clicking a button

  7. Allow Full Collaboration Only (Prevent File Locking)

This idea is all over this forum for a very long time in different wordings. Clearly this is a huge issue.

MS, PLEASE add an option for files stored on Share Point and One Drive to "Only allow editing in full collaboration mode". This would mean a file would only be editable in the desktop version of Excel if the user is running 2016 and properly signed in to their Office365 account within Excel, thereby preventing file locking for other users.

If not the solution above, at LEAST allow us to set a file to "Edit in Excel Online Only".

  8. Add custom error bars to Charts in Excel Online

My students need to be able to add previously calculated error bars to column graphs (to make a bar graph of means +/- standard errors). Adding this to the online version will make it easier for groups to be able to collaborate in real-time using the online version. This would make Excel online beat Google Sheets hands down for me.

  9. Please add the abilty to copy charts from Excel online in order to paste into other apps

Hi, I have set up charts for data visualisation within Excel that I would like others to be able to use in their reports and presentations. Unfortunately Excel Online does not appear to allow you to copy a chart.

Is there a workaround (that doesn't mean the user opening in Excel desktop and thus locking the file) or could this be added please?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

You can currently copy a chart from Excel Web and paste it into other office applications as a picture. We’re investigating expanding copy/paste from Excel Web to do more, so please continue adding votes if this is a feature you are looking for.

If you are working in Office 365 versions Excel for Windows and Mac, opening the workbook from your desktop applications will not lock the file for others.

  10. Download complete original file from Excel Online

When you download a file from Excel Online, some features that aren't yet supported by Excel Online are deleted from the downloaded copy of the file. Textboxes are a good example of an unsupported feature that is deleted from downloaded files.

Removing unsupported features is a problem if I use OneDrive to hold files for download by webinar participants because I put a lot of explanatory content in those textboxes.

I want to use OneDrive instead of DropBox for these file downloads, but won't do so if content is stripped. Right now, the only way a user can get the…

  11. Enable the drop-down list feature in Excel Online for Read Only Files

Allow users to manipulate data through drop down lists and view the file.
The online version of Excel doesn't allow the drop-down box option to work in files in Read Only mode.

  12. Access On-Premise cube from Excel Online

We are interested in creating Analytical reports (pivot tables with slicers) with Excel and host in Excel Online against our On-Premise MOLAP and/or Tabular Analysis Services cubes. Looks like to do this with Excel Online, a powerpivot model would need to be in the Excel Workbook. We'd like to create several Analytical reports against the same cube On-Premise (or access a common Power BI dataset).

Today we have Analysis services MOLAP and Tabular models hooked to Analytical reports hosted in Sharepoint 2013 On-Premise. Users can slicer/dice and drilldown.

We are looking for this same functionality in Excel Online. Many of…

We are working to improve Excel connectivity to Power BI including connectivity from Excel Online. Power BI does offer gateway servers to enable Power BI connectivity to on-premise data. Excel Online does not currently have plans to build its own gateways, and therefore doesn’t have a way to cross a company’s firewall and reach data that is located in on-premise servers. Bottom line is that databases in the cloud will eventually be reachable from Excel Online, but on-premise data can be accessed only from Power BI, and not from Excel Online.

  13. Online scripting language

Include a scripting language on the online version in the same way that Google sheets does. The ability to automate excel on the desktop version via VBA is where the real power of excel is, the online version is therefore significantly handicapped by the lack of any scripting language. Power users need the ability to automate spreadsheet tasks.

  14. Don't provide a warning on Pivot Chart refresh

Don't provide a warning on Pivot Chart refresh. I have a Pivot Chart which I right-click and press refresh, and I receive a warning that I need to be in a cell to perform a refresh.

The warning should not be displayed.

  16. form controls

Form controls for dynamic charts: #1 spinner control, #2 slider/scroll control. Adding form controls to spreadsheets online would practically close the gap to share analysis / scenario spreadsheets. Please add the spinner control (first priority) and secondly the slider / scroll

    Hi,

Thank you for your suggestion and votes for Form Controls. There is currently no planned work for this as we are focusing on other feature areas. We will continue to accept votes on this and will notify you if our plans are updated.

    Thank you!

  17. ability to create multiple versions of the same chart for a different variable

    or, make statistical analysis easier
or, take ideas from SAS JMP and Tableau

One of the tools for analysis is showing the same chart but for different sub-sets of the data. for example. a scatter chart...but then a scatter chart for each subgroup. (so, if you're looking at X, then also look at X for ages 0-25, 26-50, 51-75, 76-100) (and you end up with 4 charts all should the same thing except one for each subgroup)

  18. Fix Charts inconsistencies which require you to delete items to fix them.

I run into bugs where changes I make on a chart in excel don't make it to excel on-line. For example, I changed font characteristics of 3 data labels for a chart. On excel on-line, 2 where changed and one wasn't. To fix, I had to turn off all the data labels and recreate them.

  20. Add / Edit charts online

One of those things that are badly missing online is the ability to add and edit charts in Word.
In my opinion, add/edit charts is the simplest way to create compelling documents that look good and are easy to share/edit with anyone without going through Excel which some users a really not very much used to, especially at the C-level.

    Hi,

While we do not yet support chart editing on the web version of Word, we’re happy to announce that we have released an improved chart editing experience for Excel on the web based on your feedback!

Once the update reaches you, it can be accessed through the “Format” button, found by right-clicking on a chart or by selecting a chart and navigating to the “Chart” tab that appears in the ribbon at the top of the screen. Thank you for your continued feedback and responses.

    Thanks!
