  6. Excel Desktop vs Excel Online - online version should have all/most of the same features

There are several functions that don't work the same in the online version vs desktop. Below are a few that are particularly frustrating to me so far:

~ Paste/Formatting - When pasting into the online version, the format doesn't stay.

~ Sorting - There are very limited sorting options in the online version.

~ Copying data. I have about 300 lines of data that's about 10 columns wide and am unable to copy it so that I can paste it into another document and sort it the way I need (since online version has limited options for sorting, as mentioned…

  7. PivotTables created with Power BI using Analyze In Excel should work after publishing to Power BI

Power BI's Analyze in Excel functionality allows Excel users on the desktop to create reports using PivotTables and cube formulas connected to a published Power BI dataset. However (and this is very hard to explain to customers) these reports only work on the desktop: even though Power BI allows you to publish Excel workbooks to an App Workspace, reports created using Analyze In Excel do not work after they have been published to Power BI because Excel Online does not support connections to Power BI. Please fix this!

We are working on enabling connectivity from Excel on the web to Power BI. When this work is completed, a PivotTable that is connected to a Power BI dataset will be fully interactive when displayed in Excel on the web. It won’t matter how the PivotTable was created, whether by Analyze in Excel or in some other way. We look forward to implementing and deploying this capability, but I am not yet able to commit to a delivery date.

  9. Allow me to change regional settings: date formatting (mm/dd/yy, dd/mm/yy), thousands/decimal separators (period vs comma), formula language

Excel Online decides how to show dates and numbers and formulas based on where I live. I want to be able to choose how to display these Excel items. For dates, I might want mm/dd/yyyy, or I might want dd/mm/yyyy. My Excel formulas should be in the language of the application, and not based on where I live.

  10. Ability to open Excel Online in Edit mode by default or link to edit mode

Currently I need to click Open on Excel Online or Open Excel if I want to edit a workbook. If I have edit permissions, it should open in edit mode by default on Excel Online. At the very least we should be able to add a URL argument to allow it

Thanks for your feedback! We’re reviewing your suggestion. I would like to clarify: If sharing through SP the URL parameters are hashed. When a user edit an Excel file and copy the URL for sharing over email the user can choose to change the action to edit.
Remember, the more votes a suggestion gets, the more likely it is that we’ll do it.

  11. Allow Multiple formating (fonts, color, Bold, Italic etc) in a single cell

Our group just recently started using OneDrive for collaboration of an Excel document that we use on a daily basis. However, when trying to edit the document in the Browser, only one color can be applied to a cell. When using Excel in a local file, you can have more than one font color in a single cell by highlighting the targeted words in the cell and then choosing a different color.

Recommendation: Make it possible to have multiple colors in a cell when editing an Excel document in browser like you can do in a local file.

  15. Maintain hidden rows/columns in "sheet view" so other users are not affected by the change

Sheets view offers a private view of the Excel sheet when sorted or filtered, another common change is hiding rows/columns but that currently affects all users when sharing document.

Allow for row/column views to remain private in Sheet View so others are not affects.

  16. Enable the drop-down list feature in Excel Online for Read Only Files

Allow users to manipulate data through drop down lists and view the file.
The online version of Excel doesn't allow the drop-down box option to work in files in Read Only mode.

    Hello,

Thank you for your continued suggestions and votes. We’re currently rolling out a format task pane for charts and are investigating incorporating this feature as we continue to support more formatting capabilities on Excel Web.

    Thanks!

Please add support for opening password protected workbooks in Excel online. At present it means you have to drop to using the desktop version.

  20. Power Query: Make it easier to connect to files on OneDrive and SharePoint

Connecting to Excel files stored on OneDrive and SharePoint is a difficult and confusing experience. While it is possible, it is far too difficult.

As more and more move to working in an online environment we need a simple way of connecting.
